In my line of work, I would see too many vets who just wanted me to write them a nexus letter to service connect what are most likely non related, wear and tear conditions. They were less interested in my treatment recommendations. Most were respectful about their request, some weren’t. Anyways, they now all get filtered through my PAs first.

Can’t speak for the whole 20+ years, but as of 2008-09 the in country med records didn’t communicate with CONUS records. Thank goodness, as the company medic , I kept all the records. My guys hit me up for several years for records the VA didn’t have.

I go to physical therapy for a lingering shoulder issue and my PT tells me that day in and day out she sees first enlistment troops who come to her with zero interest in getting “well” and just want to get documentation on whatever injury they supposedly have. It’s rampant and anyone with routine contact with troops, especially young ones, sees it all the time.

And here in lies a huge fricking problem. The VA says here are the presumptives for being exposed to burn pits. They send us to VA doctors to run tests and diagnose us. We get a diagnosis from the VA then they reject the rating and tell us we need to get a pcp to diagnose it. Then we have to pay out of pocket after insurance as the pcp sends us through hundreds, even thousands of dollars of tests to tell us what the VA already told us and the pcp dont want to frick with it because they wont get any business from it because as soon as we get a rating the VA has to treat us for the copay. So the VA doesnt want to do the right thing and pcp dont want to do the right thing so now you have con artists charging $500 to $1500 dollars just to get something the fricking VA or your pcp should have done in the first fricking place.

They are not interested in going to pcp or civilian doctors because they do not want to pay out of pocket for something the VA has to provide. Shocking. The VA wont provide it until you have a service connected rating.

Pretty sure linemen make quite a bit more money than the average service member, and are well compensated with benefits packages. Maybe you should reread my post, because I said I would do the opposite of trying to claim PTSD. Just pointing out that there are things that wear your body down, like spending 3k hours in the air over god knows where. Choose your rate, choose your fate by the way.

I, and several of my people played this game for years. Get a VA Attorny and they will pull all the records, use precedents, and the correct wording and simplify things. Mine cost me 20% of lump sum and that was it, all future benefits are mine. Well worth it IMO.

It’s really hard to find anyone who is ex military and doesn’t collect disability. They all got something.
