All the old timers I know are Kennedy democrats who haven’t voted Democrat since Carter. They just never changed their registration.

My wife and myself self registered as republicans today . So add 2 to that total . A lot of these are could be people that registered years ago at a young age like my wife and some friends who actually voted for Trump . The Democratic Party of today is not what was was years ago .

+\- 40% margin of error, since conservatives don’t speak to pollsters. Decades of being called racist and stupid, I guess.

How is this news? There’s always been more registered Dems. It doesn’t mean people vote like that.
Democrats have been pushing hard to get people registered to vote all over the nation. They offer cigarettes and money to get people on the rolls. The problem is that unless they can make it that easy or lucrative to actually show up and vote, there will be a lot of registered voters that won't vote.

It's why polls they use likely voters are better than those that use registered voters.

There is no way 28% of people registered 'independent'. You can't even vote in a primary as an independent.

Correct, but you also don’t get nonstop calls from either party asking for donations.

My Dad's a democrat and hasn't voted for one for president since Harry Truman. My brother is a registered democrat and hasn't voted for once since Bennett Johnston ran for governor against Edwin Edwards. There are a lot of DINOs in the South.

Are these 12 mil newly registered voters or are these the voters that have been dead for years that vote every election and the Dems never take off the books?

I think Democrats are definitely motivated (just like people who hated Democrats were motivated in 2016). Conservative leaning voters cannot afford to simply rest on their laurels and not vote. Anger and spite are great motivators. It's why Trump won in 2016. It's why Democrats will likely show up this fall and in 2020.

Party registration likely doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. Like the article says, Democrats outnumber Republicans in ex. Louisiana. Yet, since Clinton, Louisiana has been a fairly red state. Many people are lazy and don't feel like changing their party registration. That doesn't mean they vote the same way. My mother has been a registered Democrat all her life and I don't think she's voted for a democratic candidate in a federal election in 20 years. The "rust belt" could be becoming the same way. They don't feel like changing their party affiliation on paper. But they aren't voting for the far left democrats that have all but given them the middle finger.
