Dollar General's are trashy.

Well, I guess I am trashy then because I like shopping at Dollar General. I can get in and out in under 5 minutes. Walmart is a hassle. Workers are always in my way while I try to shop. Only the self check out line is open. 15 people deep. Plus Walmart's prices are no longer the "cheapest". Maybe The Dollar General in your area is just trashy.

So in your world, trees in the latter stages of live have little benefit to wildlife

Correct, exactly why we thin the old growth out to make room for the younger trees. By eliminating tree that size you accomplish a few things that are really beneficial to wildlife.

First, you allow sunlight to the ground, which in turn allows native grass and Forbes to grow. This vegetation is critical for not only its nutritional benefits but because it creates cover for young deer, turkey and quail to escape predators. Old growth forests have little to no cover on the woods floor because they’ve shaded it out.

Secondly, by eliminating that old tree, you’ve now created a fantastic growing situation for young trees that can now use the nutrients the old growth tree was taking away.

To be fair, an oak on the site of a prospective DG isn't doing any of that whether it's cut down or not. Its main value now is that humans like to look at it.

Ever seen the Dollar General at Fort Neccesity?

No, you’re correct. Every instance is different, however I never miss an opportunity to try and teach tree huggers about why it’s often good to cut old growth trees.

If it was a wetland they'd need a federal permit. There needs to be protections on trees like there are on wetlands.

It is just a tree! Cut it down. How many trees died to make the house you live in? Why are their lives less important? Wrong species? Says who? Wrong age? Says who?

If the tree is so damn valuable then make an offer that exceeds Dollar General. Oh it is so valuable, yet nobody is willing to save it when it is so simple to do so.

Tree must not be in St. Tammany Parish. I bought a lot over there in an industrial park which was full of mostly 10-15 year old pines and 5-6 very small live oaks. Before it was over I had to "buy" those live oaks which added about 20% to the cost of my lot and REPLACE them with similar live oaks on the property. Before it was over I spent close to $40,000 extra. Be careful if you buy a lot in St.Tammany for a commercial building. Inspect it closely for live oaks. Those guys in St. T found another way to shake down new development,,

Now i'd never buy a commercial lot with a 200 year old live oak on it so I'm on the side of the live oak on this one..

Not everything is about the almighty dollar, you preserve the tree. A lot of people claiming to be "conservative" would sell off the national parks if reduced the deficit 1%. A lot of "conservatives" would legalize prostitution, drugs, but hey its not "their problem" and it boosts the economy

We have a beautiful country, turning the entirety of it into suburbia is not worth any amount of economic growth

I would have built a Margaritaville on top of that tree.

C’mon Man!

Edit. That was intended for the Biden thread.
Sorry.

DG has plenty of money to incorporate the tree as a landmark and provide some shady parking places. Maybe a small table and chair set to enjoy your L’il Debbie’s and an Orange drink.
