I clicked on the video and got out of it in 5 seconds because the debate was on - that counts as a “view”

Elon commented on it and he’s one of it not the most followed person on X/Twitter - the video popped up in almost everyone’s feed. This is like saying clicks on a page equals ad engagement on websites.

It is quite impressive… that’s 70% of US adults!

What did y’all serve at your Tucker-Trump X viewing parties? I heard avocado sales quintupled that of Super Bowl Sunday. We just had the ‘lil smokies, always a crowd pleaser.

Compared with the debate this was much easier to watch.

That's a different question and without having watched either yet I'd agree...though due entirely to the format and not who was on either.

I guess I'm just getting older or smarter or whatever...but the entire shitty format of having 8 people yelling over each other in an attempt to get cheers from their own fans in the audience and calling it a "debate" is completely lost on me at this point. I guess it's because I'd much prefer a long form discussion than what looks more like some ESPN talking head shouting match or early 2000s Fox News panel show.

I'd much prefer to have each candidate sit down with someone like Tucker or even Rogan and have an in-depth hour+ long interview discussing all manner of things. I'd also prefer to have a similar setting where the top candidates talk to each other, with the rules simply behaving like adults and no shouting over each other. At worst, I'd take an Oxford style structured debate with ZERO interaction with each other and giving several prepared remarks and then answering questions asked by fellow candidates in timed slots.

We're attempting to interview someone for the biggest job in the world, and we basically have them run through an obstacle course as if this has anything to do with the job we're hiring them for. We have to be able to do better than this, right?

It's a horrible format. Someone posted the talking time for each candidate last night and the most any person talked, in 2 hours, was 10.5 minutes. Less than 11 minutes of talking time. 8 people is way too much. It should've been the top 3 polling candidates maximum. DeSantis, Vivek, and Pence/Scott. The rest should have a separate debate.

"Views" -- could mean bots, could mean people watching it multiple times, could mean it just pops up on someone's feed.

You have to physically click on the video, watch at least 2 seconds in 50% view for it to be counted as a view.

I get that several of you are trying to downplay the view count, but that's from twitter direct.

This is not true at all

If you "view" the tweet, it counts as a view

This also.

I guess my biggest point is that this isn't WWE. I'm not interested in who can toss out the best prepared zinger and get the funniest soundbite or whatever. There have been a handful of those over the years, but mostly I just wish we treated this thing as serious as what it actually is...a job interview for the most important, demanding job on the entire planet, rather than as glibly as we'd treat running for President of the student council.

I don’t know anything about twitter and this is a genuine question: Does that 181M number at least signify how popular/trending of a video it is? It may not be a direct representation of views, but it does at the very least seem to point to how popular and “out there” the video is I think.

It’s representative of how many phone or computer screens it scrolled through. It doesn’t represent the amount of people who actually watched it. Elon commented on the video so all of the people who follow Elon likely had it pop up on their screen whether they watched it or not.

It’s the same thing with Ad’s on this site. Chicken gets paid by the amount of people who “see” the advertisement…..not by how many people actually visit the site.

It's pretty much always been, but Fox really becomes more and more of a weird sort of caricature of what it thinks "Republican Americans" want every day. It's so much so now that it almost seems completely out of touch.

Actually yes that is what that number means. It doesn't mean "unique" views, but it is a count of number of views.

No clue in regards to Twitter, but this sounds a lot like YouTube.

With YT, if they show a video in someone's feed that counts as an "impression." If someone clicks the thumbnail, that's a "view." The percentage that see a thumbnail as an impression versus those that actually click it if they do is the "click through rate." Higher the click through rate, among a bunch of other BS that's hard to understand, is how it gets shown to more people for longer because it proves engagement when YT bothers to show it to people....

Views of the tweet….not views of the video.

People are talking more about what counts as a view than the actual interview

This depends where you start "always." Go back to the Nixon/Kennedy debates and it's night and day different.

This is true for sure. We used to have "serious" newsmen asking questions...now we have talk show hosts.
