Journalists arrested and assaulted by cops in Ferguson without cause

Unless, taking a pic of the cops is reason for arrest.

Two reporters working out of a McDonalds in Ferguson, Mo. say they were arrested and assaulted for no apparent reason while covering the increasingly violent clash between police and protestors on Wednesday night. Both were eventually released without being charged.
According to reports, Washington Post reporter Wesley Lowery and Huffington Post reporter Ryan J. Reilly were both arrested, handcuffed and booked. Once word of their arrests began circulating on social media, they were immediately released.
The already-tense situation in Ferguson escalated earlier today, when SWAT teams descended on the largely peaceful protests that have been taking place since an unarmed 18-year-old named Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer Saturday.
Lowery and Reilly were both apparently working from a Ferguson McDonalds when a SWAT team entered the restaurant. After posting initial tweets about the encounter, both reporters went offline just before 5 pm.
Around the same time, other reporters in the area began to tweet that two reporters were being arrested and handcuffed.

Maybe a little more to this story? If not, terrible and court and $$$

No reporter ever has disobeyed lawful orders ever to evoke a response to have a story.
He is a Wash Post and Huff Post contributor so pardon me while I take his outrage with a grain of salt. Watch his video he posted. All he had to do was grab his stuff and head over to where the rest of the reporters were moved to. How come no other reporters were "arrested"?

Police also used tear gas on the crowd. This is not being handled well at all.

One of the tweet-photos:

SWAT just invade McDonald's where I'm working/recharging. Asked for ID when I took photo.

They won't even release the names of the arresting officers.

This is from a reporter at the St Louis Post Dispatch. Very left leaning news paper mind you:

#Ferguson crowd threw rocks, bottles, Molotov cocktails, saw a gun, right before this stepped off

What do you expect them to do? Honest question? There was an assault on a police officer the night before with a firearm, the suspect was shot by police. There was a drive by aimed at police that hit a by standing women in the head.

Umm, yeah they were arrested. But they were released after it starting making the rounds on social media.

Why wouldn't the journalists release the name? No doubt they caught at least the last name.
I hate to have the initial thought of bullshite, but the only people I trust less than most cops are journalists. No evidence other than a tweet sent by the ones "arrested"? Nice of the cops to let them tweet in custody.

Im just going to laugh. Sorry man.

I guess they won't release the names because they "didn't know any better"
quote:
Pearce wrote on Twitter that the Ferguson police chief told him the arresting officers were "probably somebody who didn't know better."

sounds pretty self-serving
i think they were detained, released, and the "media" is making a mountain out of a mole hill to claim some sort of moral victory

You have more reporters detained now. WaPo and another newspaper. All TV were told to stop filming. Alderman French was arrested. The tab is going up.

Or the Ferguson chief got them out when he realize who had been detained. When he was told they were detained, he said "oh no." Both reporters had interviewed him earlier today.

i'm not supporting the police state here, but this isn't even a story anymore. it's just protesters and media doing things on purpose to cause a police reaction, then trying to use that reaction as proof of some bigger point

wouldn't shock me, but that doesn't differ from my statement

Taking a picture in a McDonald's is promoting a reaction?

You're right. I misread one of the tweets. Apologies.
I stand by that journalists and cops are equally self serving.
