Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist = The Defenders

The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix Inc.today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a miniseries programming event.

Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s “The Defenders” mini-series event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.

Holy shite. Didn't see this coming. 13 hour long episodes for each character and then a Defenders series that teams them up.

these "team up" superhero ideas just sound idiotic.

Great deal for Netflix. Regardless of quality, fan boys will eat that shite up. It gives them a brand and content to build on for years.

There is a lot of opportunity here, and a lot of great stories. Don't mess it up Marvel.

I'll watch it but know nothing about these characters.

(cept daredevil from that bad movie)

Interesting.

It being on Netflix means that they probably won't have the content restrictions that they'd have for network or basic cable.

I wonder if that means the first episode of the Jessica Jones show will be like her Alias comic, where she gets completely smashed and has a drunken hookup with Luke Cage.

Or if they'll use the Purple Man storyline that ended her superhero career for years. Mind control villains can f*ck you up, especially when they send you to attack the wrong person and you end up beaten into a coma.

I wonder if these shows will be a little more TV-14 rated rather then TV-MA like the last two original Netflix shows they just put up.

Settle down, its netflix, not HBO and they will almost certainly market to a younger demographic

Luke Cage is a "Hero For Hire" most of the time. He'll do jobs that you contract him for, just don't stiff him on the bill.

There's an infamous Fantastic Four story where he steals one of the team's jets to fly into Latveria and confront Dr. Doom for stiffing him on a laughably small amount of money.

Iron Fist is pretty much a generic martial arts hero who happens to be Luke Cage's BFF.

Jessica Jones is a failed superhero who ended up as a jaded burnout of a private investigator for a long time. After a lot of development, she ends up pregnant with Luke Cage's child, marries him, and ends up with The Avengers when Luke becomes a central member of the reformed team.

You left out the best(and most painful for Jones) part of that scene.

If you know anything about that character's history, it's hard to do much on her without there being a lot of R-rated stuff involved.

The tamest version of her centers around her being mommy to the little girl that resulted from that aforementioned hookup with Cage.

I was originally going to refer to it as "taking it up the arse from Luke Cage" except that the one-off hookup resulted in her getting knocked up.

I don't think making babies that way is part of Jones power set.

They hooked up more than once before the baby was conceived.
