My 12yr old is a little man. About 4’8” and 75lbs.
He’s been wheeling my old 870 20ga around for ducks, doves and squirrels, but I can tell the throw is way too long for him. Thinking of surprising him with his own gun. Any recs?

Mine got a Franchi Affinity in 20g.
It's been a really great gun.

Mossberg makes a 410 with an expandable stock. Solid gun that will grow with them

Bought my 12 yr old son a youth 11-87 20ga. He loves it.

Please don't buy your son a .410 to hunt ducks with.

Beretta O/U 20 ga. Expensive, but a safe, great gun that he will use the rest of his life.

best way to frustrate a kid is shooting a gauge that's best left to experts.

Should have posted this....budget in $5-600 range. I know it’s going to take a beating. Don’t really want to spend more on something he will eventually grow out of.

If you increase your budget to $1200 you could buy a shotgun that your son will be able to shoot for the rest of his life and then when he has a son his son could shoot it as well.
Benelli Montefeltro Combo

I bought my 11-year-old a Remington 12 gauge auto and then put a compact stock on it. He loves it. Likes shooting it better than his 410 pump.

Get a 20 or a 12 and put a youth stock on it. He can use it forever.

Mossberg Tactical Turkey
Bought the Mossberg Tactical Turkey for my wife in .20 and she loves it. The adjustable stock means she can use it, my daughter can use it and I can use it comfortably.
This allows him the ability to grow with the gun and still use it in the future as his arms get longer.
With a 3" chamber he should be ok for duck hunting and about anything else.

I gave my son an 870 Express when he was that age and it worked out well for him. Before that, he used my old Stevens Model 94Y single shot.

I am going through this with my 10 year old now. I am looking hard at the Franchi Affinity compact 3" and 24" barrel.

Check out the Benelli Youth Nova 20 gauge pump. Bought one for my 9 year old grandson at Bowie for a little over $400.00. Remington firearms are not what they once were.

The Franchi has caught my attention. I’ll do some looking into on it. What about the Weatherby SA-08 anyone have experience with them? I have a weatherby rifle that is a fine shooter

Have the weatherby sa-08 for the kid. I would not buy it again. It has a piston you change out for light and heavy loads Have had all kinds of problems getting three shots consecutively with lighter loads
