I only have one rifle for deer right now. Savage 110 in .270.

For me it would be a Savage or a Tikka in .270 or .30-06.

.25-06, .270, 270wsm, .30-06, .308 are all great deer rounds. pick one of those and roll with it.

Benjamin .177 pellet rifle. I was lethal back in the cut with that thing. A squirrel or robin *cough* didn't stand a chance.

It's been 'bout 15 years since I killed a deer w/ a rifle as I've transitioned to deer hunting w/ specialty pistols. OTOH, if I had to limit myself to a single rifle for deer hunting, it would be the only deer rifle I currently own......bought it when I was in high school.....always been a FINE gun....Winchester Model 70 in 270 Winchester w/ a Leupold 2-7X compact scope, using 130 gr Hornady spire point handloads.

But just to confuse things, I'll point out that when my son started deer hunting, I bought him a Savage bolt action in 308 Win w/ a Simmons 3-9X scope; it's done a fine job, killing a buch of deer.

.308 AR-10 would be cool but 700 if I was trying to keep it priced a little lower.

I only own one centerfire hunting rifle as of now...it's a Tikka T3 .270. My knowledge of hunting is embarrassing compared to some of you cats on this board, but I feel pretty confident that my setup is quality.

.270. .30-06, or .308 all are perfect. To narrow down any further is just preference.
