Hmmmmm. I've never seen a bass open it's mouth when held like that.

I'll bet it was rubbery and tasted like shite.

Forgive me if I am wrong but I thought the world record was now that one caught in Japan a few years back?

If it is a real pic then i would imagine that the fish was good and dead by the time anyone with a camera was around. Could have pulled the mouth open for the photo.

Picture is of the former world record. (supposedly)
I think your correct that is has been beaten since then. More than onnce I think..... wasnt a 22+ pounder caught in California back in the 90's?

Neighbor in FL caught a 17 3/4 lb bass on a fly rod, took a picture, then his family with 14 children ate it.

I think it was snagged, and they Japan one didn't beat it by "enough". There was some technicality where the new record has to eclipse by so many oz.'s to be recognized. It was only an oz. or 2 over and declared a tie.
"Dottie" the California 25 lbs. that was snagged...
Here is an even more recent challenger from July 2009 in Japan. This is the "tie" fish...

That picture might be fake, but George Perry's fish was definitely real. 22 lbs 4 oz.
The record was supposedly broken by Mac Weakly in 2006 when he caught "Dottie" at 25 lbs. 1 oz. However, he foul hooked her so it didn't count. Link
Dottie died on Mother's day a few years back. She was still 19 lbs when found dead.
The record was officially "tied" in 2009 by Manabu Kurita in Japan. Link

Are largemouths native to Japan? If it's an introduced species in a controlled waterway, why would that count? Isn't that like a giant fish tank?
