My wife shocked me this morning when she said I need to get an AR-15. This came about after having lunch with my cousin from NW Louisiana. He mentioned about how many mexicans it was up here in NW Arkansas and I commented on wait until the palestinians show up. He then commented on what he had under the seat of his truck. I had to explain to my wife what he was referring to. She then asked if my brother has one. I said yes along with several other relatives that have them as well as a lot of our friends.

So she said I need to get one. I don't want the most expensive, but I don't want something that will not work if I need it.

What are my options out there?

WOW - the prices have come down from when I looked before. I don't need another 9mm handgun, but the rifle is $500. I checked Atwoods and they have a Diamondhead DB15 for $650 and BassPro has a Black Rain Ordance BRO Spec-15 A2 for $700.

Prolly the tenth time I have heard that this week. Ol boy here at work swears that the ragheads are all staged and waiting on the high priest to give the call sign “aloha snack bar”.
He swears they are gonna take out powerstations and shut down commerce and start shooting Americans.
I was like just what I need to mess up the rut is a post hurricane event with the green light to shoot anyone wearing a dew rag.

Forgive me for being AR-uneducated. Does that one shoot .223 also? Is it advantageous to have one that shoots one or the other or both?

That seems like a too good to be true deal being most ARs start at 6-700 in store. Legit gun?

I may consider this instead of using my points and getting my annual/biennial gun at Cabelas this year.

I’ve had an AR 15 quite awhile but I really don’t like it that much.
I had a Mini-14,I liked it much better but I never could get groups any better than 4””which I understand is common.
I sold it but I’ve been sorry ever since.

Oh yeah, you can get in the AR game for $700.

I just realized that 9mm has the rear sight forward, and that AR is pretty basic. I don't like that, but look around on that website. They have some good deals on AR's. And even better, you can buy a complete lower and a separate complete upper and get exactly what you want.

Something like this combo below would be around $700 after shipping, taxes and FFL transfer fees.

$140

$340

Was just looking around the website. Jesus. I just realized I dont know shite about them and really dont know what I would want/need.

I guess just for target shooting and zombie apocalypse type situations.

Yes. "Standard" AR's shoot 5.56 or .223.

Yeah, PSA is legit. Good AR for someone's first AR. That site also sells Sig and Daniel Defense, etc. that can get up well over 2K.

But for a basic AR, IMO there is nothing wrong with PSA brand.

I'm sure other will chime in, because your brands and options are endless.

I can’t believe no one has commented that your wife has to clear it for you to buy a gun.
Times are changing I guess.
Anyway , all the suggestions so far are solid.

I'm also looking at getting one, I'd like to get one in 300 blackout with plans to suppress it in the future.

Don't want to scare the shite out of my kids if I pop a coyote or something in the morning.

Anything decent entry level for that? Not looking for top of the line, may deer hunt with it on my property but it would be under 75 yards easily. Mostly quiet varmit control with a coyote being the largest game.

If you're going 300BO suppressed route get something with an 8 or 9" barrel. That is the sweet spot for 300BO. The powder is designed to burn through at 9".

Yeah palmetto is good to go that dagger handgun is no slouch either. It’s a Glock gen 3 clone and shoots great.

I would echo this and would recommend these exact two complete uppers and lowers to a first timer. Snap them together, buy a solid red dot like the one below, and that rifle will do everything that 99% of AR-15 buyers will ever need them for, and do it well.

PSA makes good firearms.

You might consider a S&W FPC 9mm carbine combined with a 9MM handgun so you can have both that fire 9mm ammo. The FPC would be accurate out to 100 yards or more and is a folding rifle. One type of ammo for both the handgun and rifle. FYI
