I'm in the market in getting a 9mm Glock and narrowed it down to two models: G19 or G43. Looking for home protection and concealed use.

Which route should I take? Is the G19 easily concealable?

What are your thoughts?

That's really almost two different guns completely. A Glock 26 with extended mag may be a good compromise on both. You would get the added needed capacity for home defense, but it's slightly scaled down compared to a G19, although I think they are the same width which is the most important factor on a CCW gun.

I'm 6ft 175lbs and I conceal carry a Glock 19 everyday. In my opinion the Glock 19 is the best all around 9mm on the market

If those are the only 2 choices, I'd go with the 19

43 would conceal a little easier being a single stack. I still prefer the 19 though

He is right it's really tough to find a gun that is perfect for both. Obviously the 43 is extremely handicapped as a home defense weapon but the 19 is somewhat large as every day carry. I do carry the 19 but not in the summer when I'm wearing tshirts, I carry the 43 right now. If you are still unfamiliar to an extent with pistols by all means get a 19. You really can't go wrong. Learn to shoot well with the 19 go take your conceal carry class with the 19 and use it as your house, truck, and range gun. When your license comes in and it's time you decide to start carrying try carrying the 19 and if you can't make it work look at the 43 or the shield.

Had the 19 and the 42 before the boating accident. Both fine weapons.
Can't go wrong with a 19. Could conceal if you wanted but still a good double stack.
The both retain their value as well bc glocks are glocks are glocks.
Just be sure to get a Gen 4

I have the Glock 26 and it's a nice firearm, but the one thing I can't get past is that it does not have an external safety. I rarely keep a round in the chamber which could allow someone to get the drop on me. I'm looking at the new Colt in 9mm and also the CZ 75.

Many pistols don't have an external safety. A good holster should alleviate that concern.

19 for what you are looking for.

43 if you just want to carry.

Not as that term is widely used today, but that's not a good reason not to buy it. It's the best all around plastic gun on the market, IMHO.

I think you can get the M&P pistols with a thumb safety as an option, but don't quote me on that. And, otherwise, very similar - the Shield is quite the popular CCW choice around here.

I'm against them, generally, for pistols because of purpose of use and overall control/access factors. A mechanical safety is another thing to break. And pistols are simple enough to follow Rule #1 at all times, there just isn't the place for them there, like there is for long guns.

Let me ask you this, do you think a loaded, double-action revolver is:

Safer

Less safe

As safe

..than a loaded, modern, semi-automatic pistol, either DA or striker-fired?

That's a "loaded" question. Thanks for the insight.

All good stuff in here. I wouldn't want to conceal the 19, but agree it's a great firearm.

I'd (and did) get separate guns for the different applications

actually had some time to kill today and went into local gun shop and looked around. They had all the Glock 9mm lines. IMHO....

the G43 was too small. I was surprised just how small. Its gotta pack a punch when shooting it I would think.

The G26 was also a little too small but with the wider grip (double stack mag) made it a little better. An extension grip on the magazine and it would be fine for me as well.

The g19 was a perfect fit for me. It really isn't much wider than the others so should still be easily concealable. Prob. be my next purchase.

And I originally went in to look at a Beretta 92fs....
