Ha. Yeah, the Kamado Joe at my camp gets briquettes with lighter fluid, same as my Weber Kettle at home.

I buy whatever is cheapest and then throw some of the always numerous pecan branches from my back yard on top.

Damn it, Bobby.
I started this thread last night while doing a little grilling. I figured this may stir up some discussion.

Usually Kingsford but damn Matchlight is so easy to light and get hot.

In the words of a close friend, "There's three things you never buy cheap: condoms, arse paper, and charcoal."

I use Royal Oak, my only complaint is that lately I've been getting very small pieces and quite a few small rocks in my bags.

Preferred Stubbs Hardwood Lump but can't find it here anymore...

Kingsford, started in a chimney starter with the Webber starter cubes.

kingsford is pricey and in recent years I find the coals getting smaller and smaller. There is a cheap brand that wal mart puts out I really like. The coals are gigantic.

Kingsford. Never heard of some of these other brands y'all have mentioned... tried some of that cost cutter charcoal and it's crackly while burning and breaks apart easily so it feels like a shorter burn.
Never had a prob with Kingsford, but I'd love trying other types if I found them.

Only use lump. I will usually try any brand but I've learned that Cowboy brand sucks. Won't ever buy it again.
I start it with a MAPP gas torch.

Red oak and pecan.
Charcoal is for petunias.
I use it when I am in a hurry but I also have a gas grill for convienence. Building a fire is part of the fun, and goes good with beer.

It is horrible...but I haven't been able to find another lump charcoal brand at any of the Lowe's, HD, WalMart, etc. stores...that's all that I'll use as well.
I'm open to suggestions if you have any...
