Depends on what area you are talking about. My buddy in texas is seeing record numbers of birds because of such a good hatch last year. A lot of my buddies in Georga and Alabama are seeing more birds than they have in recent years as well.

A few different regions of Oklahoma, Kansas, and possibly Missouri if I can fit it in.

I got a turkey lease in both MS and LA, but I have to go to Mobile fpor a few weekends during the season so ill end up hunting a few mornings there with some friends. Also plan to make another trip to TX again this year for some rios and if time and money works out, I might go try to kill a merriam in the Dakotas.
On another note, anyone been hearing any birds yet? Havent heard any yet at my places in either S LA or SW MS

This year? On our land, and in the area it is located.
It joins a large and very popular wma, and this year that wma is closed until April 1st due to supposedly low turkey #s.
It's going to be peaceful, to say the least. I wouldn't dare hunt the wma before then, but it will be so nice not having to constantly run "lost" turkey hunters off of private land, and have the "what-ifs" when a bird suddenly disappears in an area on our land where poachers are commonly caught coming in from off of public land. (Or at least I won't have to worry until April 1st, but the remaining hunters will mostly be locals by then, and we have no problem prosecuting them. They KNOW what they're doing.)
I'm excited to see how the birds react to the extreme change of not having pressure put on them at a time like March when hunting conditions are garbage at best. Our ridiculously early season means lots of people- no problem with that, we all gotta eat-, but those people are people that the birds can SEE through the open canopy and forest floor every single morning and it shuts the woods down before they're even really ready to play the game. By the time they are supposed to get right, the woods have fewer hunters, but the birds are not having it, at least in regard to gobbling and what's turkey hunting without gobbling?
Very excited to see how this goes.
Turkey in the morning, wade fishing for slabs at Nader in the evening, tornadoes for supper...I love spring.

Between the freeze, the drought, the heat, and the floods in the past year, it's gonna be a tough year. Historic low numbers of turkeys everywhere. Don't get your hopes up fellas.
What about the crawfish prices?

I’d really like to go to Oklahoma to hunt Rios. I have cheap flights to both Tulsa and Oklahoma City, are there WMA’s where I don’t need 4 wheel drive to hunt them within reasonable driving distance like 2 hours? I prefer walking so I don’t mind getting away from the road a couple of miles.

Yes, plenty of public land within 2 hrs of okc or Tulsa and most of it shouldnt require 4wd unless it has been a really wet spring. If you stretch that drive time to 2.5hrs, you get even more options. Black Kettle National Grasslands is a phenomenal piece of Turkey territory in western OK that's right at 2.5hrs from OKC. If I were coming to OK to Turkey hunt, that is where I'd plan on spending my time.
You probably will find it difficult to get too far from a road. The access on public land here is too good sometimes. Luckily, the population densities are low enough that hunter pressure generally isn't a problem.

I'm trying to get my first this year. I saw more turkeys running around SC this deer season and in general than I have in my whole life. Saw a looooonnnngg beard right off the road 1/2 mile from my house a couple months ago.

Alabama and Mississippi for sure, and hopefully LA

Have you ever hunted the black kettle? I've heard it's a clusterfrick during Turkey season but I've never been. I know its huge. I hunted private land there for deer.
