This weekend is my only free weekend for the next 3 weeks so I’ll probably plant today. Is it too early?

I also top seed oats and cereal rye early November.

I'd go for it. I've planted too "late" before and it got cool and slowed growth way down until spring. You risk it sprouting from a light rain and then shriveling up when we don't get rain for another month but life is full of risks.

I’d personally wait. I live in NW Amite county and it’s bone dry with no rain in sight. I’m planting between October 15-20. I usually plant everything around that time every year and have good stands .

We are considering planting next weekend. It is possible the next batch of mess by the Yucatán could bring rain here in 10 or so days. We are considering planting next weekend it rain appears eminent from a storm

Do you plant clover when you plant at that time?

I usually plant the 7 way mix from Gatlin. It has a small amount of clover in it .

My question is when to plant? Just south of Natchez here. Tropical Tidbits shows after October 6-7 rain.

We normally plant between the 15-20th of October if rain is in the forecast. I’m 15 miles north of Liberty.

Can't plant now, its drier than a popcorn fart. Need one, maybe 2 rainy days. I do it all (fertilize, seed, cover, etc.) at the same time, but that needs to be the right time. Its the weather not the calendar that determines when to plant.

Wouldn’t it just sit in the soil until the first rain then germinate?

Yes but the turkeys, birds, squirrels, coons, rats, whatever will eat the seed till it germinates. And if there is enough moisture already there. It will germinate and then die without a rain

I’ve planted as late as mid November. Trust me it’s fine to wait.

I’m planting Oct 11. Mainly because that’s when I have the time to do it. It was dry and early this weekend, but first to second week of October is usually when I aim for in Osyka/Magnolia.

Planted my pasture in rye this weekend. Hoping my chickens don’t eat it all before it germinates.

I'm going cut and plant plots on Saturday 10/5. I'll be watching the weather closely. If it looks like we'll have a bit of rain, I'm taking off Friday to go get it done.
