Anything Haydel or Primos

My dad and brother both use a Dr-85, but when it gets cold it tends to stick sometimes. I just bought a faulk's C-100 and really like it.
I retired my great grandpa's old homemade call last year. I actually made another one on my own but don't have a pic of the one I made. Here is my great grandpa's.

Cut down Olt D2. 42 year old call and still works perfect.

What exactly is a cut down duck call.

I don't hunt by myself enough to worry about learning to call, but I was on a hunt recently and noticed the guy calling was using what I guess was a pintail whistle when the ducks would get in close. What's the reasoning behind this?

many ducks whistle (pintail/widgeon/etc)

It's kind of a confidence call. It's not supper loud and doesn't have a tendency to flare ducks like a mallard call can do sometimes.
I mix in a pintail and widgeon call a lot while hunting.

I need to read something that gives a basic strategy to duck calling.

I have a DR-85, but recently brought a friend hunting and he had an Eliminator Greenhead Assassin. I like the way it sounded so i picked one up at the local sporting goods store. I know the guy who started the company making these, and they are easy to blow, and its a little different sound than my DR-85. I like having two different sounding calls. I also blow the Haydel blue winged teal call alot, not sure of the model number.

Nice buddy. Need to put that in a shadow box

I have an RNT original, a DR 85 and an echo on my lanyard along with the only one I can blow worth a dam..the duck picker

I have used the DR-85 for years. This year I am running a Duck Lander Quiet Timber 2 double reed. Sounds great and easy to blow.
