When I bought my first handgun a couple months ago I got Federal 115 gr JHP.

Picked up some Critical Duty the other day.

Are there any clear-cut winners in the defense ammo category?

The Federal HST rounds are usually highly ranked.

1 buck in the 12 gauge, which is what I'd actually use.

Federal 357b in the wheelgun. It's the loudest and flashiest thing you can get and I have a better chance of the noise and light stopping them than the bullets.

Because you're supposed to have a handgun that holds 17 shots. Right?

Don't use the duty in anything that gas shorter than 4 inch barrel. They don't expand as reliably. Preferably only use in 5 inch barrels. Which is wgat they were designed for.

I've been saying for 30 years that if I fire all six out of my .357 (4" barrel) in a dark house, I don't have to hit an intruder. The fire blowing out of the cylinder and barrel, along with the extremely loud booms, will probably cause a fatal heart attack.

Federal HST 9mm 124 grain
Watch shootinthebull410 on YouTube. He does a review of ammo for short barreled 9mm
HST was the winner according to him

Hornady Critical Defense

That's what a buddy had in his weapon when it "went off" after ejecting said mag, etc. It hit the floor, then the ceiling and then passed through someone's palm if I'm not mistaken. Either way, it wreaked havoc on the boy's hand.

In a variety of guns (45 ACP, 9mm and 380 ACP) I use Speer God Dot or Remington Golden Saber.
