Picked up a t3 270 and wondering what the OB consensus round is. Mainly deer hunting at distances less them 200

I was going to say, "tough" but upon further reading, that may not be what you were looking for. I'll let others answer.

I pick up whatever is cheapest. Shoot it one time before the season opens. If I hit within an inch or so of bullseye at 100 yds, I put it back in the truck and forget about it until next year. I have 3 or 4 different brands of old bullets rattling around in my truck, jacket pockets, shelves, clips, etc. I make sure it says 270 Win on it, and I load her up.

Of course, I'm not a Gun Guy

Ya a tikka 270 might cook up like a merganser (lawn dart)... cook it slow in even on a cedar plank ... throw away the lawn dart and eat tbe cedar ??

Non-smartass answer:

I’ve only shot one tikka that was a little bit picky. Just buy what you want to hunt with and odds are the gun will shoot it.

I have no experience with a Tikka.

I have 2 Remington 700s in 270, both went from "OK" to "goddamn those shots are touching at 100 yards" when I switched to Federal Premium 150 gr. Boat tail soft point, and have anchored every deer since.

Federal premium. Pick 130gr and try it. Saw some at academy with Sierra boat tails. That’s what I’d try. Reload all my 270, but the fed prem is good ammo

I shoot hornady superformance 130 SST ammo, but now I’m really getting into reloading for it. I found a Nosler 130gr ballistic tip shoots pretty well out of it. The muzzle velocity is around 2950fps (According to reloading manual).

130 Grain Federal Premium Ballistic tip, the yellow tips.

Kills deer dead, first time, every time.

My Winchester .270, my oldest son's .270
WSM and even my youngest son's 7MM-08 all shoot 140 grain bullets better than any other weight. I've had great luck with the Hornady's from Academy
