I used to be a Sigaholic. steel slides on aluminum frames calls for grease. I always used Slide Glide lite. I’ve since thinned the Sig herd bus still use it. One small tub lasts forever. I have noticed that grease on the barrel will give you less smileys.

Any oil or grease will work but grease seems to last much longer. When I break my ARs down completely I will grease the rails and contact points on the BCG but mostly keep it wet with CLP during heavy use.

What do you clean with? I have a 22 and 20 gauge that need to be broken down. Any advice appreciated.

Sounds like you're new to this, so you'll probably need a cleaning kit. No need to go Cadillac but there's a lot of Chinese junk out there so get something mid-range.

Shotguns are easy because of the smooth bore. Hoppe's 9 (because it smells like gun-toting angels) for the bore and any oil of your choice to wipe down the other surfaces. Any light oil will do; you don't need $50 per oz secret sauce gun oil.

.22s put a lot of lead into the rifling of the barrel, so if you've never brushed out the barrel get a good bore brush and use the Hoppe's. There are lead solvents but lead is soft so a decent brass bore brush should take care of it. Run a patch until it comes out a light grey instead of black. You can kill yourself making it Drill Sergeant clean, and I used to, but it's a waste of time. They're working pieces of metal, and as long as they're mostly clean and have a light coat of some sort of oil on them you're fine.

Many of the tests I've seen, this lasted longer and prevented friction better than most.

I put grease on my BCG contact points if its not being stored. Grease seems to attract dust if you don't use it often.

5w-30. I used to shoot in pistol competitions and this worked as well as anything else I've used.

Started w breakfree clp but lucas clp seems to clean better. Also for plastic buildup in shotguns i like mi pro 7, I think that's the name. It really dissolves the plastic from wads then use a clp. Another recommendation is a copper brush on cordless drill, really speeds up cleaning
