.50 Cal Hawken for me. No scope, either. Friend of mine has already killed three 8 pointers with his flintlock .58.

Yeah 35 whelen is a great caliber, even during rifle season where your shots are less the 200 yds

35 Whelen makes 444 and 45-70 look silly

My go to gun is a .52 cal flintlock a friend had made for me years ago, I LOVE to shoot deer with it.

If I was to buy a non primitive "primitive" weapon it would be hands down a .35 wheelen.

I use .50 cal muzzleloader with iron sights because I want to hunt with something that's actually somewhat primitive (arguably)

I think 35 Whelan is the superior caliber for primitive. I use a 444 Marlin because 35 Whelan isn't (or wasn't at the time) legal for primitive in Louisiana.

Same.

I timed the market and sold my .444 about 2 weeks before primitive opened this year for damn near the price of a new one. That said, it had only been shot about 30 times and I gave the guy the last 10 or so rounds I had. It was a fair deal...

I just carried a single shot shotgun this year, but I will be getting a 35 before next year.

I used my 270

I have a rusty cva that I carry back and forth to the stand, but there is a 270 in there waiting on me.

35 Whelen is lethal. 180 gr/3100+fps at muzzle. Nothing primative about that. You can hunt damn near anything on the planet with that gun.

In regular season on a pretty day I'll carry my .308 that my grandfather built. For really long shots in cutover or whatnot I'll take the 300 WSM. But for nasty days or long treks the little CVA stainless/composite 35 Whelen is great.
