Button bush - isnt that invasive. Once established is it hard to get rid of?

Pesticides are what will kill your fish.
Roundup won't hurt anything.
weed eat and roundup.

“Hogwash”
“Roundup won’t hurt anything”
I don’t know how to do links but a quick google search shows that Roundup is not approved for aquatic use.Rodeo(glyphosate without surfactants) is approved.

Pond with the best edges I ever seen was maintained by goats.
Yep. OP needs to get a couple goats and not worry about weed eating or spraying.

weeds will just fall into the pond and that could cause problems later
Why do you think this would cause a problem? It should just be adding nutrients into your pond which would be good for the fish, especially the fry, as they can feed on the microorganisms that feed on the decaying vegetation.

Agree on this. I wouldn't want to put any chemicals into water from which I will be catching and consuming fish.

Plus they are a lot of fun to catch on a 5wt fly rod

Not invasive. I am guessing my pond is 60ish years old and I have around the back 2/3 of the pond. Took 60 years to get to that point. I see it along ditches/creekbanks but not taking them over. It is a native species as well.

While I don’t disagree, it’s not a whole lot better to spray the grass around a pond. It’s gonna leach into the water most likely.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t see the issue with using a bush hog the first time and then just mowing it.
I can’t remember the issue exactly, but I have heard of people having issues with grass clippings in their ponds. I want to say it had something to do with the PH or maybe the oxygen levels? That it threw one off and caused issues.

You are right. Decaying plants take up oxygen That’s one reason we have fish kills when floodwaters recede

I know the scythe was a joke, but for an acre pond, if you got pretty good at it, it might would work better than just about anything.

It is. I'm talking about right up next to the water. I'm on a zero turn so can only get so close.
Don't chance it. I know a guy that he put his 60" zero turn in his pond by mowing too close. Less than a year later, his wife did the same thing.
I think I'd build an offset mower to pull behind.

I’ve pulled mine out several times. When it’s wet, the tires gets mud in them through the grass. Then, they’re very slick and if you have a slope like I do, the backend slides in the edge.
It can be bone dry everywhere else but the pond perimeter is too wet.
