Yesterday afternoon we welcomed into this world my fist baby Grandson. Over thirty years ago when my son was born on the day of his birth I went to Puglia's and bought him a Browning BPS in 20 gauge. When I went back to the hospital that evening to have the steak dinner with my wife I brought a Browning catalog and as I was holding him I pulled out the catalog and showed him what I bought for him that day. My wife laughed and thought I was crazy.
I want to get my first Grandson a firearm for him from me to hopefully keep and cherish it forever and maybe pass down to his children.
I'm just undecided what to get for him.

Not something he'd probably use until he grows into it but I'm really liking the Smith & Wesson Model 63 .22/32 Kit Gun. Definitely something he could use as an adult and pass down to his children. Still trying to decide though.
Any suggestions?

Get him a lifetime hunting license instead. If you’re a really cool Grandpa you’d get him both

A Browning BPS in 20 gauge, damn fine gun and the second in a new tradition.

Id ask my son if he wanted to get him a Browning BPS 20 ga. If so, let Dad handle it and then you get him something a touch different

Lifetime license is only $200 for hunting and fishing. Best present I’ve given and received. It’s pretty cool to go hunting/fishing with my friends sons knowing I covered their license years ago.

Im a fan of a marlin 30-30. My grandfather bought ones for my uncles and they passed them down to their sons. I will be buying one to for my son when he is born. They are great first guns and you can break it out once or twice a season just for good memories.

Agree with this. Received one for each of my boys when born. Thought it was one of the coolest gifts.

License fees will always only go up, they will appreciate it when they get older and will always be able to say their grandpa got it for them.

Congrats btw.

Ya dont say...

All joking aside, the lifetime license is the best thing you could get him but i also like the bps 20 gauge tradition idea as well

Browning BL-22. He'll be able to shoot it a lot sooner than a 20ga. Although, the 20ga would be a great first gun.

This

Or if you want to stick to Browning and buy probably the best .22 semi every designed, the Browning SA-22.

There isn't a better .22 in the market.

Depending on how much you want to spend, I would get him something he can pass on to your great grandson. I'd go for a 20 gauge o/u: Browning 725 or Beretta 686.

Lifetime licens (although I think you have till age 3 to get at the $200 price)

Golden boy 22 mag

If it’s in your budget an old sweet 16 a-5 or any a-5 would be great

30-30 marlin or winchester are nice guns.

Between my sister and I we have 5 boys (and 1 girl). Our dad did something similar and bought each one of them a S&W Model 66 stainless combat magnum 2.5 inch, all older models but in great shape.

I thought it was a really cool touch that linked them with grandpa. Definitely going to be passed down for generations.

ETA: congratulations!
