Just picked up my new golden retriever pup on Sunday and I'm trying to figure out what to feed her. I know someone that just ordered a pallet of This and I'm thinking about trying it out. Apparently it's what they feed service dogs and a lot of professional hunting dogs. Any comments on it?

we feed our dogs taste of the wild, but honestly the whole dog food geek scene is getting as bad as the beer geek scene.

i remember we fed our family lab jim dandy back when i was a kid and she lived a long happy healthy life. now im paying $60 a bag for my beasts and it lasts like 4 days

I've been feeding my pup Pro Plan Sport 30/20 since he was about 4 months old or so. It's been great and it's affordable at $42 for a 37.5lb bag on Amazon which lasts about a month or so.

That's the one I've been looking at.

ETA: I can get the one I linked above for $30 per 40b bag.

feed my GSP nutra source, the fish one (think its pacific or salmon). fed him pro plan and had lose stools. fed him blue buffalo and his skin wasn't right. went to acana pacifica and he did well, but it was hard to justify the $80 a bag not during hunting season. Nutra source has treated him well and is about $55 i think a bag. i highly recommend going to jefferson feed (pet store). they know about the food they sale.

Dr. Tim's momentum or pursuit depending on hunting season or offseason. I can feed my dog 1/3 of that as I did Pro Plan, so I end up saving a good bit in the long run. Plus it's much better food.

I'll be going the grain free route after this bag is done. My wirehair has gotten some pretty dry skin over the last few months and I can tell it's bothering him. Where do you buy that in bulk?

Great energy and coat. Second best behind EVO red meat, but he gets fat on that. Plus side of feeding good food is that they only need 1/2 as much

Pro plan sport 30/20.

I mix that with with the purina one true instinct turkey and venison during the off season for flavor and to put a little weight on him. Fricker gets more mad at the ducks than I do and doesn't eat during the season.

We have only found big bags at Petco - grain free isn't cheap but it is the only thing that has worked and the transition was fairly easy because it was the same flavor family. No negative effects of making the switch.

Never heard of it honestly. My trainers have used Pro Plan, Eukanuba and Victor. I personally won't spend that much. I use Diamond and don't notice one bit of difference. It's much cheaper. Both my Golden and Lab could care less about taste.
I did notice the protein content of your feed is around 30%. That's pretty high. Not really necessary especially when the dogs are in the offseason or idle.
