Let’s say I want to bass fish professionally? I feel like I’m an ok bass fisherman. What do I need to do to step up to the next level? I think it would be a much more enjoyable job than the one I have. Plus the pros probably don’t pay for much. They get donated poles, lures, clothing, probably everything you can imagine. How hard would it be to go pro?

Do you own a business or have a family that will bank role you while you make your way through the ranks?

Pros perform at a different level of efficiency, too. Minimal wasted effort and maximum time spent with a lure in the strike zone.

The best ones also have a network of local sticks who feed them info before a tournament.

I know one that is a pro and very good. He was winning boats before he had a drivers license. He was extremely good at a young age. Parents sent him to college but all he wanted to do was fish. Made himself a student of fishing and learned how to sell himself and started winning. Where most go wrong is they think they are good because they catch fish on their home turf. You need to be good at catching everywhere. With that said, you can make very good money fishing a tournament every weekend on some of the big lakes.

not sure a first timer is getting anything donated unless he knows someone....and i mean, really knows them. PLus they haul their own boat, pay their own stay.

probably not a good life.

Most professionals are a little better than ok but then as I typed this realized that Aaron Brooks was the Saints starting qb back in the day so there is a chance I guess

If you just want some stuff donated to you then post hashtags on Instagram for every single fish you catch. Make sure that every single fish you catch you make a hashtag for every bit of equipment it took to catch that fish

I'm no expert but I think having a shitload of money would be a good place to start. Pay off lots of locals to do lots of scouting pre tournament.

Why do you think you want to go pro? Go fish some of the big tournaments that are open to the public and you can win some decent money. If you are good, you will figure it out after you win some stuff.

You like to bass fish now, are you sure you will like it when it’s tough fishing? How bout when the tourney is on rainy nasty crappy wknds? How bout when you are not doing good and making any money?
Once anything is a “job” it changes the whole dynamic. Some people still prefer it to another job but it’s still a job for most people who do it.

The next level would be to find a good bass fishing club and fish that for a couple of years. Then see where you are with it.

Travel costs gonna add up on you real quick if you don’t place in the money considering that you’re going to need lodging for 5-6 days per tournament.

If your not in a club and want to be put to the test you can join ascension anglers bass club. There are some serious sticks in that club. Currently some from that club are fishing the elites and MLF. A lot of good guys and serious fisherman

Get some good sponsors....

Do you realize the cost of being a pro angler...?

I fished a couple of top 150's on the tour as an amateur, it's amazing how much they just spend on gas, let alone tournament fees...

And time as well... Those guys usually pre-fish the week up to the tourny, if they don't make the cut at the end, It's off to the next site...
