I was hoping for good news for your girl & your family.
We recently lost a Beagle but knowing we had a week let us spoil her rotten. She ate scrambled eggs, steak, hot dogs & Happy Meals all week.
We had time to make a few more memories & I think that helped take the edge off of the grief.

Phuck, not what I wanted to hear, so sorry you and your family are going through this, goes without saying but make the best of the time you have.

I will second the vets at Medvet in Mandeville. Our dog just spent 6 nights there with sepsis, glad to say she pulled through and is doing fine. The Vets would call me two to three times a day with updates and we could go hang out with her at any hour of the night.

I never in a million years thought I would spend that kind of money on a dog. Guess I’m a softee after all.

I have concluded that a dog is the only creature that is loyal, faithful, and unconditionally loving. They will do their best to cheer you up after you've had a bad day.

Truth. My dog can look at me and know exactly what i am thinking. WAY more than my wife can.

It is tough for sure, we had a string of 3 in 2 years to get put down. Doesn't get easier. T&P

Oh man, that picture with your kid and the dog

We have a 7 year old boxer and a 4 year old human, and they are best buds. Boxers are absolutely GREAT with kids. They are inseparable when they are home together... my dog is getting up there in age now, and starting to get a little grey in the face. I’d honestly like to get another pup before he passes, as this boxer is the best dog I’ve ever had and I’d love for the new pup to pick up some of my dog’s habits

My boxer will be 10 in November. He sleeps with us every night. I will be devastated when that day comes.

Feel like a wuss for dragging this out.

Brought her to the vet today and said our goodbyes.

Last night was the first night she didn't eat, figured before it got real bad again we better go and let her rest in peace. The boy doesn't understand and my wife is taking this extremely hard as this was her first pet ever.

I know there have been a few on the OT and here that are going through puppy issues so here is my only advice. If you get to take them home and make them comfortable for how ever long they have....do it. Even knowing today was coming at some point, I'm ok with it. We got to take a couple more walks and she actually killed a bird 2 days ago. It was a hard couple weeks, but it was much easier letting her go today.

Sorry man. I had a similar situation with my lab in 2012. Glad you and your family were able to love the dog a few more weeks. RIP

The Power of the Dog
Rudyard Kipling, 1865 - 1936

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie—
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find—it’s your own affair—
But … you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!).
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long—
So why in—Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

That’s a tough one. Prayers to your family dogs no matter how long they lived are never here long enough. I have one that will be joining her soon it’s a tough thing to watch them decline

My boxer will be 10 in November. He had a procedure recently on his gums and some pre cancerous cells removed. He has something on his chest that we'll get checked out soon. They don't know what it is. He's fine now, but we'll see. He's the greatest pet I've could have ever hoped for.

My thoughts are with your family, bro.

The cruelest thing in life is that “man’s best friend” only lives 1/8th of our lifetime. Having to put a dog to sleep is an amazingly hard thing to do, but a necessary one at times. We waited three years before we got another, and as some stated, I’d agree doing it quicker than that.
