As the title reads - I'm looking for recommendations for best way to start mass-elimination of squirrels around my house. I live in a neighborhood so reasonable discretion is key.

I've seen recommendations for PCP air rifles, but I'm looking for alternatives. Downsides of the PCP air rifles seem to be the refilling process. Pumps apparently suck. Refilling from a high-pressure SCBA-type bottle isn't cheap. Buying a compressor is stupid for this purpose. Am I missing a relatively easy refill option?

Are there other alternatives that I should be thinking about for my purposes?

Just buy a regular pellet gun. Or, buy a .22 suppressor.

.22 with subs and a silencer is quieter than a pellet gun.

sub sonic 22's are about as loud as a good pellet gun, and the squirrel isnt' surviving that .22 shot regardless of where you place it.
If you want to be a dick, just put a bird feeder out and the squirrels will come.

why again are you trying to kill an animal that is goign to be impossible for you to get rid of in a neighborhood?

Trap them. Mix peanut butter with sunflower seeds.

Then pop them. That way you're not inadvertently shooting towards homes or people.

I've eradicated the 10 acres or so that I have mostly cleared for my homesite of all squirrels. Those bastards caused me over $5k in vehicle damage a few years ago and I got pissed off and did everything. Traps, my wife running around with a 22 praying and spraying, got two outside cats and everything. frick those bastards. And yes, traps will catch them.

One (more?) of those rodents got into my attic and chewed on my electrical wiring - where that happened was right by my panel and all of my home run wiring.

I found where he was getting in, fixed it, and for a while they were still chewing at the area. I am currently rewiring my house. And I want to get some level of revenge.

I like your style. That's a good idea!

And your reasoning is similar to mine. I'm easily $2200 into my rewiring project and I've spent probably 50 hours crawling around in my attic so far. I've got 23 circuits rewired - still have nine left - and all I want is revenge.

if you shoot them from inside of your house through an open door or window they can't be heard from outside.

All you hear is the hammer hit the firing pin and firing pin hit the cartridge.

Its less than hollywood quiet.

I shot my gun with my wife sitting beside me and she didn't even know. She heard the click but didn't realize what it was.

I bought some CCI suppressor subsonics recently that say they fly 970 FPS. They're quiet but not as quiet as the old 710 FPS CCI subs I stocked up on 10 years ago. The 710 FPS rounds are just like you described. I can't find the 710 FPS anymore.

eta: These, they're a neighborhood squirrel's worst nightmare. They used to cycle my old Marlin model 60 no problem. They shoot like a dream from my pump action Henry. The coons that keep stealing my peaches had better be nervous.

If you really want to get after them, use the bait. I bought a bucket for about $50 a few years ago. And I didn't see a squirrel in my neighborhood for over a year. The bait blocks have a hole in the middle, so I just ran wire through them and hung them in trees so they stayed away from pets. The squirrels vanished with the quickness. And I still have a lot of the bait left over.

ETA: Just looked up what I bought. Farnam Just One Bite. It has good reviews on Amazon

Bird feeder and a Pellet Gun work wonders. Open your kitchen window while making a roux.

Raptors, wish you could buy them just for tree rats. We’ve been fortunate in our neck of the woods, we’ve had a nesting pair of Red-shouldered Hawks for the past 4 years. They have just decimated the tree rat population, awesome birds. They’re loud and you’ll know when they’re around, they’re the local celebrities.

They still make them with a segmented bullet. I’ve pimped them here before. The segmented quiets will put something as big as a beaver down quickly. I’ve killed several with them. It is a devastating round.

No louder than a 22 pellet gun.

They also load the segmented in a subsonic and mini mag. You can get them right now on CCI’s website.
