USPS proposal to allow handguns to be sent through the mail for the first time since 1927

Handguns could be mailed through the U.S. Postal Service for the first time in nearly 100 years if a proposed rule under the Trump administration takes effect. Democratic attorneys general in two dozen states sent a letter this week in opposition.
In 1927, Congress passed a law barring the USPS from mailing concealable firearms unless they were from licensed dealers in an effort to curb crime. In January, the Department of Justice revisited the 1927 law, calling it unconstitutional and arguing that it violated the Second Amendment, and urged the postal service to change its regulations.
The Justice Department said that as long as Congress chooses to run a parcel service, "the Second Amendment precludes it from refusing to ship constitutionally protected firearms to and from law-abiding citizens, even if they are not licensed manufacturers or dealers."

Under the proposed rules, someone could sell and ship a gun to a person within state lines. The rules are tighter for mailing guns across state lines — people could only mail it to themselves in the care of another person and would be required to open it themselves. That's designed to assist people who are traveling to another state where they might want to use a gun for recreation.
The Justice Department argues the patchwork of state laws around guns makes it difficult to take them across state lines for lawful purposes like target shooting, hunting and self-defense. It said that in many cases, people have no ability to travel with a firearm, making mail the "only viable method of transportation."

mixed feelings about this. I personally don't trust the USPS to deliver a gun
I feel like it'll get "lost"

Antifa is about to start knocking off usps trucks.

Not a good idea. The USPS is currently experiencing a problem with their employees having sticky hands on checks and credit cards.

They can’t deliver a post card, imagine them trying to shove a bar into a mail box.

I can’t get a birthday card delivered through USPS without it getting opened.

They have a bunch of thieving frickers at the USPS. Guns will be disappearing left and right. No doubt about that.

I have 3 orders out for delivery. One from UPS,USPS and FedEx. The UPS package was supposed to be delivered on Wednesday. It got to Jackson,MS. No movement on it until yesterday when it showed up in AZ. It’s now in its way back. Ordered a thumb safety from Nighthawk via USPS on Wednesday. It’s sitting in OK city now after being there for 2 days. I
A little over 2 years ago Nighthawk finished my 1948 Colt Hawk and shipped it back overnight via FedEx. It was stuck in the BR warehouse for 2 days. I drove down there and waited outside to get someone because non employees can’t get in. Guy called his supervisor. Told them they had my handgun. They found it after looking an hour.
Bottom line I don’t trust any of them.

That's a damn good question. How does Academy/BassPro receive their guns? I know how they get some of their ammo. The container gets shipped from the port to a random warehouse with no special security provisions. It gets loaded into a random dry van by random workers. And they put a plastic seal on the van when finished.
Imagine what the wrong person could do with 45000lbs of 9mm or 12ga ammo.

I ship handguns weekly thru USPS.
Break gun down and ship it as parts. Totally legal.

When I worked at the gun store, most came in FedEx

Currently guns are shipped via Fed Ex and USPS. If one buys a gun off the internet, the buyer has to pass an instant background check at the dealer and pay a fee to the dealer to take possession of the gun. Some yrs ago the USPS developed security problems shipping handguns. To fight this, handguns are shipped in a faster, more secure and more expensive manner than are long guns.
