Yeah that’s true I stand corrected on that, I just looked and the only one I can’t find is accubonds. I feel like a bunch were sold out 6 months ago when I looked.

My son has been shooting this exact gun and caliber, all around great setup. If you do use don’t do the SST rounds you want the accubonds or core lock. That said could not find ammo and they are still scarce and I would get the 308. I shoot the Mauser M12 in 308, it’s worth the extra money and is a lifetime gun and shoots where you point it.

Got my 11 year old son a Savage Axis with a VX3 leupold and added a custom muzzle break from bayou teche gun works gun has almost zero recoil he’s loves it. He killed his first deer this year perfect shot at about 120 yard dropped on the spot and he is now ate up with hunting. Downside ammo is hard to find lately last time I saw it I bought 4 boxes.

Tika T3x Lite Compact in a 7mm-08

This is the only rifle I hunt with. My 8 year old son got his first kill with it yesterday. He’s skin and bones and he shouldered it just fine said he didn’t even feel it kick.

My son has been shooting .308 since he was 8 years old. Ammo is usually readily available. Nothing wrong with the 7mm-08 except for finding ammo.

Ammo availability is over dramatized for most people's hunting rifles. 5 boxes will last most people a decade easily.

Here’s some ammo from Midway.. This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but all of it is fine ammo. In particular, the 7–08 Hornady Lite load would be a great youth load. I have killed eight deer using 120 gr bullets at similar velocity in my 7–08 handgun and been very pleased.

love a 7mm 08.

i ended up getting my kid the ruger youth 308 instead due to my perception of ammo availability. he killed his first deer this year, a doe. cant go wrong with either caliber in my opinion. we use the reduced recoil 150gr. sweet shooting gun.

Anyone have this gun and happy with its performance?

My 9 year old shoots this caliber, but it's a Savage. He can handle it and has no issues with the kick or sound. He's killed 3 deer with it already.

Meh, 7mm-08 lacks sufficient stopping power, go with .308

My youngest has shot a 7MM-08 Browning X-Bolt for about 15 years. I’ve used it a couple of hunts as well. Minimal recoil, and we’ve never failed to recover anything we’ve shot. A well placed shot from a .243 on up on Southern whitetail like most of us hunt are going to put them down. I killed a spike in Texas a few years ago with a borrowed .220 Swift shooting (IIRC) a 55 grain bullet. Stoned where he stood.

Yeah like .03 close!
Always crazy to me how people always refer to the 7mm08 as a kids round. Don’t get me wrong loaded down it’s a great kids round. But if you loaded it with full power rounds it’s very capable.

He was shot in the neck with a 7mm08 and survived. It's a tongue in cheek comment.

As for Ammo, it is hard to find right now but I easily found in the off-season between March and August. Sometimes I had to go to dedicated outfitter stores vs Academy. I found at Bowie, Shooters (Lafayette), and even at Bass Pro. If Academy had them, you hit it on delivery day. I have 3 boxes and should be good for a number of years.

Yeah, 7-08 ammo can be found, but it requires planning ahead of time and expanding your options. Of course, for those like me whose only local store w/ ammo is Walmart and who live an hour away from Academy, we've had to do that for a while. Another option is to go online, find the ammo you want as well as the ammo you'll settle for, click on the "notify me when in stock" option and order as you get the notification.
