re: Trucks and garage space

We built a house less than 4 years ago and had no idea that the garage in the plans could not accommodate a full size truck depth-wise. I found that out the hard way when I bought my Tundra and tried to put it in the garage last year when a hurricane was threatening and it was a couple inches too short (that's what she said)...I added 3 feet to the width of the garage but didn't know I should have added more to the length. Its not that big of a deal because I wouldn't normally park it in there anyway but it still pisses me off that I can't if I wanted/needed to.
End of rant.

Width wise, we have been near that with a mid sized SUV and a car. I've got 14' ceilings and tons of space. Just the length of this truck that's going to get me.
One of the reasons I'm getting this is that I can pocket about 10k to help with our next house. So I'm not going to not buy a truck because of a garage I don't plan to be in within a year or two. But its going to be a pain.

Maybe I can bring it to a trailer place and see if they can modify it?

Ouch. I don't know what you can do with that.
Maybe they will take that in trade towards a new trailer?

That was what I was thinking. It’s a Ranger Trail trailer. Just have to find one my old 361V will fit on.

if the truck has a camera back in. Actually easier for me to back mine in as is at an awkward angle to get in. I can back in with no problems and the camera is really easy to get close.

Just use the tennis ball method and quit over thinking it. We have a long garage and my wife still managed to plow into the sheet rock. I hung a tennis ball and told her anything beyond the ball is a no go zone.

Never used a tennis ball, but my granddaddy had a cork hanging from fishing line thumbtacked to the ceiling.

I could always switch spots in the garage and have room, but my wife prefers her side for getting the kid out/etc......and we all know what that means.
Has the wife already rejected the idea of switching sides? She could always back in and still be getting the kid out on the same side.
Edit: Nevermind. Female driver trying to reverse into parking spots might not be a good idea.

Garages and parking spaces are getting smaller and trucks are getting bigger.

That truck doesn't really fit your space. You are going to hit on one end or the other eventually.

But.... I would screw a tire stop (2x4 or 4x4) into the floor. anything else has too much play to come close to working for that tight of a fit.

I had a similar issue in my last house. I have a crew cab F150 and that sucker barely fit in the garage. I bought one of these and loved it.
Striker Garage Sensor
I went ahead and got one for the wife too. Her car fit fine, but you know, her being a woman and all...

Make sure that 237" is from the absolute closest part of the door, and don't forget to take the trailer hitch out. Also, make sure you have room to swing the doors open

I've got a small drop off in the concrete right before the actual door. I was measuring to there. No part of the door extends that far, so I should be good. Again, I realize 5" is going to be tough, if not impossible. I did think of the idea of a tire stop as someone else mentioned.
May just re-arrange to make it easier for the wife to swap sides. Or, I'll just put a hitch cover that sticks out an inch or so and bumps the wall before the truck. Or I'll just get like 6 smart cars and stack them up in there.

How many of you park your full sized truck in a garage?
I do. Ext Cab Silverado, garage is 22 x 22 with a curb stop thats about 36" from the farthest wall.
i have room to walk around in front of the truck, but the trailer hitch is about 3 inches from my garage door when closed. I would go 23' deep if i had to do it again.

237" aint happening with a full size truck. you need room to walk around it if needed.
Can you do a mid size truck...ie. tacoma, colorado, or the new ranger?
