I want a new TM, what's the best motor for the money?

20' Xpress Bay if that matters

Minn Kota or Motor Guide

Might as well be asking Ford or Chevy.

Get 80 lb thrust. Whichever you go with.

I had the same boat. first thing is sell the POS 70 lb minn kota it came with. I had to fix mine several times and the boat only really moved when it was on 5.

that being said get the 80 lb thrust minn kota. its a different model and works better. if you want to go I pilot go that route. I am with my next one. I currently have a motor guide 82 lb thrust that came on my new boat and I don't mind it.

Motor Guide all the way. I have had both MG and MK and it is not even close. The main problem with MK is the brackets. They just don't hold up. Motor Guide takes a pounding and still works great.

Does the motor guide come with a composite shaft now or steel? The last MG I had was steel and made a shite ton of noise.

MInn Kota Fortrex, best trolling motor on the market. I've had both and the Minn Kota is quieter, tougher, and will hold up a lot better. Get at least an 80lb thrust.

As others have said, this will turn into a Ford/Chevy type debate.

If you primarily bass fish go with a MG foot controlled.
If you primarily fish the coast go with an IPilot.

I've had both and the props on the MK are more weedless than MG. I have a IPilot now and love it.

If you're looking for remote steer, don't forget about the Xi5 from MotorGuide. It's their answer to the iPilot. Again, Ford vs Chevy, Marlboro vs Winston, Jack vs Jim.

if you have humminbird electronics get an ipilot link if you you have lowrance I would be inclined to go with the motor guide version so they can talk to each other.

Have had multiples of both. Like some things and dislike things about both brands. No idea how I would choose today if buying new other than it would not be a foot.

For saltwater fishing a iPilot or similar is the only option IMO. For bass fishing I rather the foot control and the Minn Kota Foot control is the goat.

Get a 36 volt, no replacement for power!!
Minn Kota is better for grass, but heavier.
Motor Guide is lighter and imo more durable for South Louisiana

i had a Motorguide SW75 remote control on my Kenner 1800.
Was a wonderful trolling motor and never gave me one issue. I abused the shite out of that thing. It was also very good on batteries. I ran it 24 volt and it would troll the causeway all day and i'd still have battery left.

one of them fancy ipilots. Dad calls it a DP motor. he can now run his bay boat like a supply boat at the close platforms
