Before you read the linked article, please understand the following:

1. I didn't write it.

2. I don't care if you agree or disagree with the author. I posted it because his writings are interesting and usually very informative. (And, FWIW he often challenges our thinking).

3. The guy who wrote it is Caleb Giddings. I'm certainly not claiming that every single thing he posts is the "gospel of defensive firearm use." But I seriously doubt that very many people on this (or hardly any other board) have the experience with handguns that he has. So his material is worth reading whether you agree of disagree.

Here's a brief bio of Caleb from another website:

"Most people first met Caleb when he was a contestant on the first season of the History Channel’s Top Shot series. Before he was on the show, Caleb served in the Coast Guard and was a competitor in a variety of competitive shooting sports. He is a Five Division Master in IDPA and also competes in USPSA and NRA Action Pistol."

4. Anyway, with all that said, here's a link to one of Caleb's blogs that Greg Ellifritz re-posted this week:
LINK

5. Fire away (at Caleb's opinions) if you're so inclined.

i know it's a humorous post and all, but his point about glock's grip angle is silly. most people think it is shite

point a M&P, Walther, HK, 1911/2011, etc and they're naturally aligned, not requiring any adjustment. #1 complaint you hear about Glocks is that you have to make a minor correction after aiming. Zev even fixed the angle for their OZ9

many people just train to correct it. they're fine guns, but his HTFU attitude towards it is moronic.

So he's good at playing with guns, but doesn't have much useful experience with them. Hard pass, especially when plenty of people with real experience shite on Glock ergonomics.

I really like my Glocks for what they are, but I'm not going to pretend their flaws don't exist because I like them.

I had an old school PPK that was as simple as point and shoot

(ETA: Let me put it this way - if you didn't anticipate the shot, you couldn't miss within the weapon's intended range - only an idiot would get rid of such a weapon - yep, looking at you, Ace - ).

Classic Sigs, too, have a very natural alignment, which makes sense as they were endeavoring to make, essentially, a SA/DA 1911 at the beginning of it all.

I've held and shot glocks. They feel like holding a 2x4 compared to my Vp9 and Walther creed.

Regarding #1...I'm a huge Glock whore but that grip angle really is an acquired taste.

#5 is strange since the Glock 19 isn't a full size gun.

Eh, my CZ-75 is far more comfortable in hand than my Glock, but I can shoot my Glock far better than the CZ.

Why do 90% of pictures of Glocks show them with the trigger pulled / snapped?

Two degrees ? Come on.

eta: I shoot M&P's and Glocks on a weekly basis. On occasion I shoot a Ruger .22 semi-auto and a few Walthers. I don't have any issues going from one to another, but I do use the sights. (Then again I'm not a Master Class shooter in any IDPA division, much less five divisions like the blogger.)

Ironically he probably knows very little about true high end firearms.

When SHTF, no sights are gonna be used. That's when you are gonna want a gun that draws and points like it's supposed to. I don't even have to aim with my carry guns. They shoot where I want. I run drills, and that's how it works.

That's how it should be. You draw. You shoot. It's over that quickly no matter how much training you want to put into angling the gun correctly. Time spent aiming is time spent not shooting.

FWIW, I have two degrees also, but I don't bring it up. The guy in the OP is a know-it-all douche, and with that comes the inability to hear other people. His own opinions actually hinder him as far as self defense is concerned.

And to even come at his point about expensive guns....custom 1911s come with tighter tolerances than factory ones, and they are most definitely more prone to failure. Ever heard of an AK-47? They work all of the time for a reason.

Moral of the story is that you shouldn't listen to this guy. Shoot several guns, and buy the proven reliable one that YOU shoot the best

I wasn't clear enough when I mentioned two degrees. I was referring the the image in the link that shows the angular difference in the grip angle of a Glock vs. a 1911 to be two degrees.

A Ruger.

There's more to it than a line down the center. Have you ever held a Glock? Are all of us just making this up?
