Hey guys, we're trying to find out how many people know you can donate fish, door, or your kill to the local food banks? Anybody done this?

Are you affiliated with Hunters for the Hungry like your name suggests?

I donate my meat at the local women’s shelter.

Seriously, food banks might take it, but everybody is worried about liability. Probably better chance to distribute it through churches to their needy folks.

I hunt in the hill country in Texas. Had 3 does cleaned and quartered up in an ice chest. Called the hunter's for the hungry drop off point in Fredericksburg and was informed I would have to pay $40 per deer for processing. Dropped it off at a needy family the local taxidermist suggested instead....

Do you not eat deer meat? 3 hill country deer would be about 40lbs of deboned meat. I applaud you for donating and not letting it go to waste just curious.

It sounds funny until you realize you're targeting rape victims and beaten spouses.

I know Dowlings in Simsboro will accept whole deer for Hunters for the Hungry, process them, and return the back straps to you free of charge.

They are some good people.

I’ve donated, but usually pass extra on to people I know. Some of them are needy.

I have to kill 10-15 a year on the lease I'm on to maintain our herd count.. These were extra, after I had given to friends, family, etc...

Every camp needs a Ronnie.

One of my uncles met Pastor Ronnie like 30 years ago. He has a small podunk poor church. Best we can tell, he spends most of his time trying to get food for the people he feels responsible for.

If we need to thin out deer or have a big group hunting ducks for a week and have more than people want or will fit in the freezer, Ronnie is just a phone call away.

In the summers he’s one of the few people outside family with permission to fish our reservoir.

Hey! Just seeing this. That wouldn't happen in Louisiana. We cover all the costs as long as it's an H4H partner processor. Good to hear it went to a needy family though! Thanks!

I dont hunt but I do fish. I have no problem giving away fish. My FIL doesnt fish anymore so I'll hook him up, my mom I pack her about 5 or 6 packs of filets in half pound portions and she cooks her fish when she wants. Give some to my neighbor who helps me out with mechanical/welding stuff.
