Place your ammo in the fridge the night before you plan to shoot if you hunt in colder temps. It’s a better simulation of how your rifle will shoot this winter.

I've never heard of this before but it seems to make sense.

That’s a big deal. I like to make sure we (my boys and I) get in some range time every Fall, but our ammo supply is dwindling. Sucks

I will be checking the zero on my three hunting rifles this weekend

what are the 3 rifle chamberings - 22-250, .243, 30-30, .270, 6.5CM, 7mm Mag ? What is your longest shot opportunity ? I agree with others, use a solid rest and make reticle adjustments after shooting a 3-shot group.

Sight in at 2” high @ 100 yards!

that logic will depend on several factors including: cartridge and hunting scenario. What if OP hunts in the Basin and is using a Marlin 30-30 to hunt thick cover with palmettos ? If OP is hunting pipelines and comfortable taking 300 yard shots with a flat shooting cartridge then I'd agree with your recommendation.

I have more than three, but the three are the kids and my main hunting rifles. Also I have been sighting in rifles for three decades, but I thought it would be a good topic. Never know when you might learn something new.

Sight in with the ammo you are hunting with.

This. Make sure you're using the same grain sighting in as you'll be using on the hunt. Big difference in factory loads vs my home loads.

I would have the kids sight in their own rifles. Not only do they get more comfortable shooting but it will also let you adjust the sighting to each shooter.

Personally, if I shoot a rifle once and it is on then I just put it back in the case and move on.

Caveat- if starting from scratch, get it close with whatever the cheapest/junkiest stuff you have is. It doesn't matter for just getting it close. Then fine tune it with hunting loads.

Just make sure you take at least a shot or two at 100 yds if you can. Any spread in that group at 25 will open up a good bit at 100.

Sorry fat fingered the down vote

Use a bore light if you have access, start at 25m put 2/3 in a one inch square. Move to 100m. Put group in 1 inch square. Then know your ballistics so you know you impact beyond 100m. One click on your turrets at 100m is 1/4 inch. Use a lead sled or bench it out. And us a sand sock

If you can’t shoot worth a shite have some one else zero it At 300m and under, cheek to stock, and eye relief won’t make that much difference

Remember trigger squeeze, breathing, and anticipation are what make up the most common mistakes. Dry fire on target until you think you have all three under control. Don’t waste ammo getting into the zone.Recoil should always be a surprise

Vortex has a podcast out talking about sighting in rifles and they talk about using lead sleds.

They actually said that using them is not good to sight one in. Said to use shooting bags, bipod, or a rest.

If gun has been used a number of times previously and you haven't run copper solvent and brushed the barrel then do it. If your rifling is not clean then no gun can every be sighted in properly.

You could have everything set up exactly the same and 3 shots will be all over the place. You simply cannot adjust a scope for fouled rifling. Bullets acts somewhat like a knuckle ball if they aren't spinning.
