my neighbor gave me a boat last year, pretty similar to this. rebuilt the carbs and she runs like new. Ive put about 5-600 in it so far and it is running damn good. finished installing a new tank in the center console and put it in the bayou last weekend. Just have a little bit of electrical to finish out and a few other small things and I might rhino-line the inside since the paint has faded.

Really?
You wouldn't mind being able to go offshore in 3-4 foot seas in the morning and handle that with ease. Come back in the afternoon and work shallow water ponds in the marsh...all in the same boat?

That's a damn fine hull you have there.

We do it just fine in our 18 ft Carolina skiff and it doesn't look like satan's penis.

Then you haven't been in 3-4 foot seas offshore. In an 18' skiff, that's not fine, that's dangerous.
I'm talking about being able to chase yellowfin 50 miles offshore and on the way in stop for some redfish/trout in the marsh...duck pond fishing (8"-1') deep.

Charles,
Might need a little more info on at least what kind of boats interest you before asking for help. Pretty much like saying I want a gun, help me out.

We caught snapper offshore this past weekend in an 18 ft Carolina skiff, 2-3 ft seas. If that panga can truly go 50 miles out, then its a beast, albeit a hideous one, but a beast nonetheless.

It's doable. I wouldn't touch 5-6' seas in anything less than 21' thogh

I was in 3-4 foot seas running along the coast last weekend in a 13 foot Boston Whaler. I figure the boat is "unsinkable" and the waves aren't quite enough to flip it. So I got soaked and had a great time running with a pod of dolphins.
But I don't go out chasing tuna or snapper or anything like that.

We were in 5 footers last year, that wasn't fun.

I don't care what size boat I'm in, I don't go out in 5-6 footers.

Especially in a Carolina skiff. We were bet to hell, I lost my lunch, but we did catch a limit.

Yeah, I've known guys take on "rogue" waves in 5-6' seas and go down. Usually happens around all these islands we have.

No way I would ever go out in 4,5,6 footers to catch fish. Death just waiting to happen. Hell even 2-3 chop is no fun.

I wouldn't go for fishing, probably for work but then I'd be in a big boat.
I would definitely go out in my sailboat. Biggest waves I have ever been in we're like 25+ rollers from offshore and 5-6 ft chop from up this bay. The race was at the entrance of the bay.
When you were in the bottom of the wave trough you couldn't see any other boats, so when you got to the top you had to look quick where everyone/thing was.

actually here is a pic of the actual boat. Its amazing how well the motor runs after sitting up for so long. I think he told me it sat for like 15 years. I put some marvel oil in the cylinders, rebuilt the carbs, and changed the coils and she fired right up.

I've had a blast while on a sailboat in rough conditions. Obviously, a very different ride.
An 18' boat can go out in 3-4s, I wouldn't describe it as fine or safe though...especially in a skiff.
Last time a buddy went out, he was about 45 miles out in 3 footer in his 29' boat and ran across a guy in a 20' Panga just cruising like it was nothing.
