Video in Link

quote:

At first, fisherman Scott Haraguchi didn’t know what was going on when something bumped into his kayak off Oahu.

“Heard a ‘whooshing’ sound, looked up and saw a wide brown thing on the side of the kayak,” Hagaruchi wrote about the video posted by Hawaii Nearshore Fishing. “Thought it was a turtle at first.”

Then he realized a tiger shark had rammed his kayak. He kicked the shark away as it continued to attack his kayak, the video shows.

“Happened so fast,” he wrote. “Didn’t realize I took my left foot out of the water to brace myself from impact and actually pushed the shark’s head off with it.”

Such docile fish. Like the scientist say. We just don't understand sharks. That's why this coonass don't go in ocean unless I'm on my drillship.

Suddenly us kayak fishermen are like the Rambos of the bay.

Yep, either this or a damn alligator chasing the kayak.

Nope, not for me. I want a boat with good size sides to it and a hell of a lot more stable in the water.

LOL at you guys. The shark was obviously only curious. He didn't actually attack anything. If he wanted the yak or fisherman, he'd have taken them.
Its amazing these creatures are so feared considering how gentle and inquisitive they can be.

I've watched it a few times. Only thing I think is, if you notice the paddle position in the water next to the yak, the shark assumed it was a big turtle or fish.

But man I would have shat myself and the dude is lucky he didn't flip over into the water.

Had a ~12’ tiger bump my little bitty Whaler sport off American Shoal in the lower Keys a few years ago. Was interesting to say the least.

Yakkers always wear a gopro. Weird, but in this instance, I appreciate it.

My nephews are big into kayaking and go out a couple of miles and once caught a nice size sailfish. They've also caught cobia, kings and some huge tarpon on their way back to shore. They talk about seeing sharks all the time and they aren't fazed a bit. I guess when you're in your twenties and thirties common sense hadn't totally settled in.

As for me, there is no chance in hell I'm going out miles out into the gulf in a small floating vessel to catch large fish and being surrounded by sharks. They've never had a bad encounter with a shark, but they have had to dodge some storms, which just sounds ludicrous because I've been in a nice size boat in bad weather and was scared to death. I guess this younger generation has to learn the hard way!

One time out close to Ram Powell we saw a dead whale and two 10’ plus tiger sharks feeding on the carcass and they were tiny compared to the whale.
