Bought our 5th wheel in March ‘17. Our kids are now 9 and 7. Back in 16-17, we did a few day trips with the in-laws who already had a camper. The kids really enjoyed it. I really didn’t want to spend the money for our own.

But after figuring out storage(extended our driveway into the backyard and added a pole barn to keep it covered) we bit the bullet and went all in. We decided we would use it more if stored here at the house. And we wanted the kids outside away from electronics as much as possible.

It’s been great so far. Making memories every trip. The kids meet new friends every trip. The various campgrounds offer different types of trips.

As long as you know going in that these campers are built for profit, not quality. You can spend 20k, 50k, or 150k on a camper and things will break.

I think we'd enjoy it but it seems like something I'd always be fixing. Any recs on a 15'ish footer?

I've got a nice pop-up I will sell you for cheap. It's a great way to decided if you really want to keep up with a camper.

To each their own, but I'll never understand these people who buy expensive arse campers to go park two hours away at Cajun Palms and drink with the trash out there.

I don't understand people that buy a 75,000.00 rv., finance it for 10 years and use it less than 10 times a year. After insurance, gas for towing you could just stay in a nice hotel/motel once a month at any resort.

The fancier you go with slides and crap the more likely you will have issues.

OP, just get something simply that is used and cheap. See how much you use it, what you like, and what you hate. As said get a solid roof to make the chances of a leak lower.

All the OP really needs right now is somewhere to sleep. So I wouldn't get anything fancy, there's no need. Once you test out something used and cheap and know your needs, then go spend your money and what is now important to you.

I'd rather not camp than not have a slide.

How are you defining fancy?

You be you that's fine I understand. But OP and myself don't need the space. OP said all he needs is a place to sleep when visiting family. Now if he wants something bigger and nicer that's fine.

Everyone just always goes big, and then they complain about having leaks and maintenance issues. Smaller and simpler you go, the less issues you have.

When I "camp", I don't do anything but stay out of the rain and sleep in the trailer. I actually prefer a simple A frame pop up. All I need personally with a family of 4. AC, decent for rain, very light, and easy to tow.

Be very careful when buying used. 30% of the used campers are a great buy, the other 70% have some problem that the owner cannot fix or afford to fix. Unless you are paying cash $$$ financing a new camper is easier and you have a warranty. Camping is addictive and a lot of great memories are made with children of that age. Remember if you stay in a motel 1 night a month, that is the price of the camper note and you are not sleeping in a bed that 600 people have slept in before you that year...Do your homework, internet is a great tool, just remember 100% of the people that have problems or hate it will write about it...only 20% of the people that love it will brag.

We bought an old used popup with new canvas for 2,000 a few months ago. Floors and roof are solid, A/C works. The slideouts are beds, 1 king, 1 queen. Great for us so far.

I recommend renting one or buying the cheapest, oldest, solid camper you can find. If you find yourself not using it enough to justify having it, you hopefully minimize your loss when you sell it. Same thing on the flip side if you guys use it a ton and decide that you can justify upgrading a bit.

Big has nothing to do with it, and over the years, I have had multiple leaks and many breakdowns. None of those were slide related.

Definitely shop used. I'd go for 18 ft or so if ya can find a double axle that helps with stability and tounge weight. Things I recommend.
a ladder on the back. If ya have a problem ya need to get to it.
2 propane tanks one to use while ya look to fill or trade the other.
a big deep cycle battery or room to put one ya can get later.

These are things ya really need every thing else is just bells and whistles. Here is a wonderful camper that I am sure ya could pull with a good hitch.

Anyone have experience with one of the No Boundaries series of light trailers? They range from 10' to 20', various floorplans, some without sliders.

Do not listen to this guy. Never buy new. Yes, you get a warranty, but the repair places are so backed up it sometimes takes months to get something fixed. Buy used, use a mobile repair company if something breaks. Will be much cheaper in the long run.

Buy a Rav 4 and then buy & tow the 38 footer. You’ll enjoy every minute of that purchase

I’d get a fancy pop up. Light and functional.
