Talk me out of it please. My truck can tow 10k ish. Her family lives 6 hrs away and has a full house right now so it would be nice on trips home for her. The in laws live in the country so it would be the difference of staying in the yard vs almost an hour away in a hotel. We'd use it on vacation as well.

I think we'd enjoy it but it seems like something I'd always be fixing. Any recs on a 15'ish footer?

15 footer? That seems small. We had a 28ft and it was a good size.
Is it just y’all 2?
Do you have a trailer brake controller in your truck? If not that’s a must.

Just you and the wife?

I like the toy hauler even if you don't have a toy. That back end opening up to load shite is so nice. Really gives you a lot of space in a small area when nothing is back there.

Get one. I like the no slides as less shite to break and seal. I also like the work n plays because the roof is one solid piece of aluminum. Not rubber and in need of treatments several times a year.

You thought about a small RV, or you just hooked on a trailer?

Mostly just a pull behind camper Roger. It's just me, the wife and a 12 yr old daughter right now. We don't need much. My truck can tow 11.5k according to the tow ratings so I think we'd be ok there for a small camper.

Maintenance nightmare. The roof will leak. The value will drop quickly. It is just a really really cheap trailer. If they live in the country 6 hours away, just look for a foreclosure and buy it. You could always rent it out.

get a small bunkhouse with at least a queen master and a slide for the kitchen area

about 5400# dry
25'

you don't want to have to be breaking down your dinette nightly for your daughters bed...this one has a Murphy bed for you and the misses...remove the two back sofa cushions and just fold it down for yall's bed

you'd need to go larger if you want your bed to be setup already...

but the bunkhouse is great in that your daughter can bring a friend once you get a bit more into it.

and if she does bring more friends you can always break down the dinette

I'd buy the cheapest used decent one you can find.

How much are you really going to use it? Where are you going to store it? The roof will leak over time.

Don't buy one. Rent one close to your destination each time you need one and put the extra cash in your pocket.

Been there, done that.

In that size range you could get a really nice fiberglass unit or an airstream as they are more affordable in the smaller sizes.

On the other hand in that you can get into a new mid range name brand for 10-15k. I have owned two trailers bought new both times. We will downsize on the next one.

There are some ultra light Travel trailers that are easy to pull. I’ve got a 34’ 5th wheel and it’s a bit of a haul even with trailer brakes. If you plan on using it a lot it’s a great investment. My father was extremely skeptical but being at Auburn games in the heat he loves walking his arse into the air conditioned RV and watch the game. I also got mine for deer hunting and it’s an absolute luxury. I don’t have to get up as early. I have my shite already to go and just get on the side by side and go.

I guy I work with HAD one. His advice is if you want a camper, rent one.

Used it a few times year 1 then by year 3 not at all. Still had the payment and storage fees.

He sold it and his f250 last year.

You also have to thing about the total cargo capacity of your vehicle as well. The tongue weight of the trailer takes away from the total cargo capacity. On 1/4 ton trucks, that is usually the limiting factor, not towing capacity.

Let's say your truck can haul 11.5k and the capacity is 1800 lbs. Add a 7,000 lb trailer with 800 lb tongue weight. The cargo capacity of the truck is now only 1,000 lbs. That is people, fuel, and any cargo in the bed.

So when looking at trailers, play close attention to tongue weight as well as total weight.

And FWIW, we have a 25' trailer. It's my wife and I, a 7 y/o and a high energy hunting dog. It's a little tight at times, but not too bad. Our trailer has no slides.

Do your homework and don't be in a hurry to buy. Spend lots of time on the lot looking a floor plans and layouts. This is going to be a second home. Make sure the space is going to work for your family needs. (On the flip side, not matter what you get, you'll adapt your style to it.) Now is a good time as the season is ending and dealers are motivated to sell.

Good luck.
