Another interesting stat: Vermont has the 15th most guns per capita of all fifty states, but the 13th lowest number of gun deaths per the CDC. Similarly, while Utah has a very high gun ownership rate, it’s #16 for the lowest gun deaths in the US. Finally, Louisiana isn’t even in the top 20 for gun ownership, but it’s #2 for gun deaths.

How are these numbers arrived at? Most of my guns are inherited. There is no record anywhere. These numbers are guesses at best.

What could possibly account for the difference in gun violence in Louisiana vs. Vermont? Someone should commission a study.

Louisiana has the highest number of boating accidents that's why we didn't crack the top 20.

Something is wrong with that article.

quote:

Have you ever wondered how awesome your state really is, using actual, quantifiable data? Some people look at the cost of living, education, and crime. Myself personally, I want to know which states have the most guns, per capita. The good news is that someone crunched the numbers and figured out the answer, although I don’t appreciate the tone of the article.

The list from the link he cited is different from his list. I am confused. Louisiana is #13 on this list

1. Montana (66.3%)
2. Wyoming (66.2%)
3. Alaska (64.5%)
4. Idaho (60.1%)
5. West Virginia (58.5%)
6. Arkansas (57.2%)
7. Mississippi (55.8%)
8. Alabama  (55.5%)
9. South Dakota (55.3%)
10. North Dakota (55.1%)
11. Oklahoma (54.7%)
12. Kentucky (54.6%)
13. Louisiana (53.1%)
14. Tennessee (51.6%)
15. Oregon (50.8%)
16. Vermont (50.5%)
17. South Carolina (49.4%)
18. Georgia (49.2%)
19. Kansas (48.9%)
20. Missouri  (48.8%)

I wonder what the difference is….

Surprised too that Louisiana has a low rate of gun ownership compared to other southern states being that it’s a big hunting and fishing state

That’s a lot of guns in Louisiana and Texas that are unaccounted for. Holy smokes. Don’t mess with Louisianians or Texans folks.

We probably win in the NUMBER of guns PER household though.

I was always amused at the lack of firepower in the Sopranos. By the final episode it was Tony and a few old guys with revolvers. Tony pulls out an AR like it’s a secret space weapon but nobody else has one. Like most of my neighbors have bigger arsenals than his whole crew.

How do you live in these parts and not have multiple guns?
