Did well once we got a handle on locations, north wind was a bitch yesterday but found some good spot with fish moving through later on the afternoon
Got bout 30 by night fall, biggest being around 3 lbs

The house boat is awesome at night Eddie turned on every damn outside flood and we hammered troutzzzzz almost every cast, mostly small but keep over 50 for 3 of us

House boat fish

We went back out this morning at got 20 on top water and trolling the canal

Think we boated over 100 fish in a day and 1/2
Unc will need a new fillet knife
Great trip doe highly recommend this time of yr, ready to go back!

This mornings haul, we rolled by 9

Nice fish. My family stayed on the PAC houseboat 2 weeks ago and under the lights we never got into any specks of size.

Stayed 2 nights fished probably a total of 6 hours, caught around 100 trout between my sons and I.

Around 3:2 white trout to speck ratio. Threw swimbaits, double rigs and dead shrimp under a cork. Thr entire family had a great time.

We prob threw back 50 small ones and kept 40-50 12” on houseboat.

Trout were all over main canal today but no size.. threw back lots. Still fun as hell to catch.

The houseboat is a blast to rent.. gonna book it again in a couple months.

FYI.. keep focus when y’all fish around those shrimp nets! I was looking down, next thing I knew current threw me into one of those structures..! Rods and power pole all tangled.. Twas a shite show and luckily the only thing lost was my cup holder.

No doubt. The current in the canal and in that cut to the marsh can be absolutely crazy.

Definitely want to go back.

For sure. It had me pinned against that goddamn thing. Things got hairy for a minute... luckily I was still sober me!

Have to be careful in that area. 2 years ago during a tournament a guy let himself bump up against one of the docks to reorganize some things and the current pulled on his fins and flipped him under the dock. He ended up losing a ton of gear and almost drowned in the process.

I’m a fairly quick learner and I learned to keep full attention when in that damn cut

I almost got in trouble once, brought my fiances little brother out there once and he got hung up, and while getting him taken care of I got hung up even worse. Was pretty sketchy for a moment.

We went prefish for a tournament there last year and the current got so bad I almost couldn't paddle back. I made it to the entrance of the horse canal and had to get a buddy to tow me in the rest of the way in his Outback while I paddled and even still it was quite difficult.

Damn that’s crazy...

Is that shrimp net considered cut the first or 2nd cut?

I can 100% see this, PAC is no where to be doing any paddling in my book, place is so damn wide open and the current and wind is just brutal at times
I think my 2nd time out in a yak (w paddle) was PAC and getting back across the main canal was just awful
I guess if you're not planning on going far you will be good but hell just getting to the nets is tough

we saw Eddie renting out a couple of boats to 1st timers
yackers, both had paddles in their hands
was like these dudes will are gonna end up in Cuba

I've always referred to the first cut as the horse canal, and the second cut I've always just called the "shrimp nets".

here's your tip for today: do a slight lean or weight boat to the obstacle

Anytime there's current pushing you onto anything never let the boat touch whatever it is being pushed into. Just reach across and push off it, especially a pier, they're like undercut rocks to whitewater paddler. It can even be your paddle if it is in your hand. However it's best to have a little inward lean (to obstacle side) and hand walk down till it's no longer a problem. Everything is fine (A-0-K) until the hull touches. In general the downstream side is much better... don't ever lean to the upstream (the from or incoming current) side... can you say yard-sale!

ETA: it takes surprising little to hold a boat off, the current will just slide/flow under, hulls are designed to generate very little laminar resistance... it's why they paddle so effortlessly. (Although I have little experience with a keel.)

That's a perfect description for those two cuts.

Back in June I strained my right bicep when paddling my Big Tuna against both the wind and current back thru the shrimp nets . In September, I bought a PA 14.

Anyone interested in a gently used Jackson Big Tuna?

Appreciate the info But that was not an option. Before I realized what was happening, I was headed straight to the structure head on. The nose of my boat actually went under the boards. No idea how I did not flip.
