Wonder if it broke lose and floated away or just sunk, it was a Carolina Skiff, I don’t think those are self-bailing.

Why wouldn’t he have taken it out the water...?

Saw the pictures on FB. The office/store, ice machines, bathroom, lockers, Yaks, and launch are all gone. Unreal.

Carolinas are self bailing, probably had it tied to the dock and the dock broke loose.

Thinking about buying my son and I a couple of kayaks.

Looking for opinions.

He’s 13 and we will mainly be using them for fishing around here (wolf river (ghost river section) and pickwick lake).

I’m thinking a couple of the ascend 128t.

I’d look at the Jackson Bite at $799 before the Ascend 128T at $849, I started in an Ascend but that was back when the sub-$1000 market was Ascends or getting lucky into something used. I’d trust the quality control of the Jackson over the Ascend.

Yeah you can’t beat that price point of a Bite.

For moving water, stay away from the 128t. It is a barge.

If you're in that ballpark price wise, as mentioned the Jackson Bite is a great option, as is the Old Town Topwater 106 ($899), the Old Town 119 Solo Sportsman ($899), and the brand new Perception Outlaw 11.5 ($699). I'd get any of them over the 128t.

Well, the wolf river isn’t really moving that much but I get what you’re saying.

Thanks for the info.

Lastly. I have a sequoia. Any recommendations on a roof top carrier for two?

With FeelFree redesigning the seat the Moken 12.5 has to be on that list too. $799 with the sonar pod for electronic mounting and wheel in the keel for transport... Killer boat at that price point.

Is the Moken getting the Gravity Seat?

What are your intended uses for the kayak and what is your budget? In South LA, unless you plan to paddle long distances for fun (5+ miles at a go), I struggle to imagine a scenario where a sit in would be better.

If you're more interested in the paddling than fishing or will be fishing primarily in rivers and small ponds, I would lean heavy towards a canoe/kayak hybrid like the Native Ultimate, the Old Town Discovery 119 Solo Sportsman, or the Old Town NEXT. Those 3 are all great paddling craft that are lightweight and easy to handle. They also have comfy seats and can easily be fished or hunted from if you'd like.

If you want to do a full dive into kayak fishing, a fishing designed sit on top will come with lots of bells and whistles that are engineered to make your fishing experience better.

That being said, if I had to pick one craft to do everything in that I do (kayak fishing rivers, large lakes, small ponds, and duck hunting from my boat), it would be one of the first 3 I mentioned.

Naw. All I’m going off is the pics from iCast but it is the lawn chair style seat and not the molded soft seat it’s had forever. Why any kayak manufacturers still make that old style is beyond me. Nobody wants that

True. Although I thought they quit making the Commander which is why I didn't mention it. If you could find a used Commander it is a similar style boat.

I was reading up on the Vibe Shearwater and found this little tidbit in Kayak Angler Magazine

quote:

The Shearwater is designed to paddle well or accept a pedal or motor system in a large covered well in the deck. Thomas has adapted a pedal and fin system to propel the Shearwater, but he looks forward to adding an insert that will accept other pedal systems.

If they can make an insert fit an MD-180, that will be a bad arse boat for close to the price of a Compass.

Does Old Town sell just their drive?

Nevermind, they do. eBay has one for $979. Let's see if Vibe can retro fit it.
