Any of you with experience with hyacinths? Let's say a body of water has 100% coverage, but you can see open water about 100 yards away. Can one push through the hyacinths with a pole or paddle?

Super dependent on how thick they are. I've paddled through some on occasion, but poling is way better when an option. But I've also come upon mats of them that were impenetrable.

not sure about hyacinths but i was able to push through whatever the frick in in pool D at Lacassine and thats some nasty shite
but seriously i dont think it would be a problem if there's water under the boat ya should be good

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere in this thread, but I looked back several pages and didn't see anything.
Any of you guys have a Bonafide? I've seen all the online reviews, but I'm hoping to get some real world talk. I've been paddling a cheap eagle talon kayak for the past three years. I decided I really like yak fishing, so I'm starting to look at upgrading. Bonafide seems to be the shite, in the paddle world. Speaking of which, I don't think I want a pedal drive kayak. For my uses, I don't think the benefits of pedaling will outweigh the cons.
Anyway, I'll be doing some demos before I make any purchasing leaps. Just curious if anyone here has one.

The Bonafides are cool and I'm sure they'll be adding pedals soon. Most of the Paddle guys on here fish strictly Freshwater. The marsh guys all have Pedals I would think. What kind of fishing are you doing?

I’ve paddled through some on many occasions. Even really thick stuff. It’s a workout, but I’ve never gotten stuck. Polling through would probably be a lot easier than paddling.

I tried one at a Pack & Paddle demo. It’s really nice. Stable, agile, I love the layout, and the seat is very comfortable. If I were to get another paddle kayak, that would be number 1 on my list.

ICAST is next week. Anxious to see some new stuff.

The updated predator pdl is a show stopper IMO. They fixed every issue I had with it. Added built in tracs to the accessory plates, added a universal transducer mount, added eva foam padding for where you stand, made a waterproof well in the pdl drive, added a forward facing flush mount rod holder (super convenient while rigging or landing fish), and changed out the rudder for the lighter/better model they put on the topwater.
Oh and after they did all of those improvements, they dropped the price $300 to $2499. Especially in light of hobie raising their prices, this was a huge move. Added some new color options too.

They also added a Power Pole Mount. Old Town is definitely trying to become a player. Kudos to them for lowering their price. Still needs Dual steering though...... DC, I still want to test yours.

Trying? They've had the best pedal drive for years now. Their Predator series is top shelf and the new Topwater series is an incredible value.

Yeah but how many people do you know actually have one? I only know one person.

I own a Predator MX, my brother owns the Predator 13, best friend owns the Predator PDL. Another really good friend owns the PDL. They're huge on the east and west coasts too. My buddy fishes out of La Jolla (San Diego) and says it is about half Hobie's and half PDLs for guys who fish for yellowtail.
For some reason they haven't taken off as much in south LA, I think in part because Old Town is a NE company and hasn't traditionally had much of a presence.

See, that's where I'm at. I live in Lafayette and the only person I know that has one lives in Alexandria. They haven't caught on down here. Hell, I don't even know who sells them besides Dick's.

It's true. Our club is probably 99% Hobie. My buddy has a like new Titan 12 for sale and can't get rid of it. If you know anyone up there that wants it let me know.

Cabela's does too. But yeah I dont know what distributors they have in Louisiana. P&Pis listed as a distributor on the OT website but I dont think they stock them.

Pack and Paddle is an authorized dealer in Lafayette and you can also get them through Academy. Ship to Shore in Lake Charles also has them. There are at least four people in the area that I know who have bought the Predator PDLs in the last 6 months because they have reached out to me personally.
Are there still things I would change on the Old Town? Absolutely. Although a lot of my small issues were taken care of with the 2020 remodel. As a lefty, dual steering would be a great. I would also like to have a rear hatch for access inside the hull. But having used a Hobie and and a PDL, for my uses, the PDL wins 'erry time.

I'd buy it from him if I were in the market for one. Private school is not cheap!
