Well I gave it a month but I am certain that this hobby is not for me.
Seems like everytime I went out it was a comedy of errors, it just wasn't meant to be.
Lots of reasons why I am exiting the hobby already. A major one is the fact that its a chore to get it all in my car. Like in Jurassic Park, I determined whether or not I could fit it in my car, rather than whether or not I should.
Second is the fact that it felt like all I did when I went out was fight the wind and drift. No staying in one spot without an anchor. Because of this drift I almost lost my $1000 DJI drone. Like an idiot I thought it would be a good idea to take off my drone from my kayak but the wind/drift made it impossible to land. With the battery running low, my last ditch effort was to try and gun it toward the shore and land it in the sand. Unfortunately the battery ran out and it fell about 85 feet onto the sand. Somehow it survived the fall, I have no idea how it didn't break into pieces.
My drone was saved but over the month of doing this I lost hundreds of dollars of gear and equipment. I didn't tip once, but fishing line getting tangled up and caught up in everything didn't help. For example I had a $10 lure out and some sailboat goes right over my line and cuts it. Goodbye $10 lure. Had a fishing rod go overboard when I was untangling a knot.
Hate getting sand and salt all over everything. If I had a garage or yard with a hose it would be one thing but living on a high floor in a downtown apartment is not ideal.
Not saying it can't be fun for others. I am sure it is, it's just not for me. Will be selling. Thanks everyone who helped me in this thread anyway.

When I go I bring the minimal amount of shite.
Beers and waters in my ice chest.
I don't bring a tackle box, instead I take what baits I plan to use and some extras and put into a bag that stays in my milk carton.
I don't have an anchor I use my paddle and tie of to it.

Sounds like you’re taking too much stuff. If you’re willing to give it another shot, try simplifying. 1 or 2 rods (and have rod leashes or pool noodle type float), small tackle tray with just a few items, smallest soft cooler bag you can get by with for type of fish you’re targeting, and a small anchor (or fill an empty plastic bottle with sand and tie off to a rope as an anchor).
As for the sailboat cutting your line, he was likely passing too close if he was close enough to go over your line but thats just a situation where you should’ve reeled in.
You’ll get better with experience and it’ll be an easier process the more times you go out.
ETA: don’t feel too bad about the lure getting cut off. One time a buddy and I were bank fishing from the seawall along Lake Pontchartrain and some jackass on a jet ski went over his line and completely spooled him. Only guess I had is that the line got sucked into the intake. He was pissed. And we were on the bank. shite happens sometimes whether you’re in a boat, a yak or on the shore

One good day...that's all you need. It just so happens that the first time I went out was a really good day...I was hooked. There have been quite a few miserable ones since, but I keep going back,

I live downtown Houston in an old warehouse. I ditched my storage unit and now have it locked up in the parking garage in a area where people store their bikes. I back right up to it and load it up. Also I just stop at a car wash and spray off my gear on the way home. As far as losing gear you should have the floats for your rods. Cheap safety valve

Yeah I’ve really got my gear minimizes these days. Two rods, pliers, fish lipper, net, small tackle tray and my ice bag.

Short story of my first trip. I started on one of those inflatable pontoons in 2006 with a trolling motor on it. Got me a 36" swivel for the seat and I thought I was in business. Seat mount broke probably due to not being made for that setup and I lost my trolling motor battery when I went in. 16" deep giant mud flat up to my waist in mud. Every time I tried to pull myself out the boat just moved. Live and learn

Bring a pvc pipe to use as a pole anchor. I get to a spot that I like, thread the PVC pipe through my side handle and into the mud. If I hook up, I just yank it out quick whenI know the hook is well set.

Got out to Ross Barnett Rez today and smacked the bass better than I ever have on the body of water. Wasn’t the best fish but such a satisfying day. That place has owned me way too much. All fish 16-20, best frog bite I’ve ever been on there.

Good for you, man. I'm primarily a redfish chaser, but I love love love a good frog bite with bass.

Right on. That’s tough water to fish in a kayak

Me and bud hit Big lake to fish west cove then head into the marsh
Didn’t exactly go as planned, got about 2 miles from the launch and got hit by 1 hell of storm, frick you Rob Perillo and that no rain until the afternoon but
Having lighting cracking all around ya definitely make your arse pucker
Once it let up we fished our way back in but water was turned up did found a couple
High light was the Darrel’s special (and site casting a crab with gulp)

frick me. I have an engagement party I have to go to. I told my wife she needs less friends.

I'll be there. Still don't know where I'm fishing. For someone who doesn't know LA1, where should I launch? I'm just there for the door prizes. Lol

I’d prob use the leeville yak launch. It’s nice and you have quick access to open water or marsh.
