Yes. A long mother scratcher too.

If anyone is looking at the Old Town Topwater PDL, they are offering a free Humminbird fishfinder unit with any purchases before September 28th.

I can't recall ever being in my yak and wishing I had a sonar unit.

I almost always turn off the sonar on my Lowrance and just use the GPS chart plotter.

I use sonar for 2 reasons.......
1. It tells me when I may need to start "fluttering" the mirage drive to avoid hitting bottom.
2. Finding deeper cuts/ledges on channels. This is particularly helpful when I find these in the summer so I know where the fish may be stacked up when the water gets cooler.

I am tentatively planning a freshwater yak trip Saturday afternoon for Bass or Sacalait that is within an hour of Lafayette. Should I go in the basin or Lake Martin, etc.? If the basin, where should I put in and should I go north, south, etc.? I have never fished the basin but I am intrigued with it.

If you are going for bass, I’d go to Lake Martin. If bream, Henderson. Sacalait, also Henderson. However, most of the people I know catching sacs in Henderson are catching them in places that would require a long paddle.

No idea if these are any good, but at that price, it may be worth a shot.

I think I may visit Lake Martin. I think I talked the wife into doing some bank fishing with my son while I paddle away in the yak. Any advice on bait? I don't have a lot of fresh water lures but I recently purchased a couple of frogs. Do Heddon Super Spook topwater lures work for Bass?

There’s lots of duckweed and grass. I avoid exposed hooks. So, treble hooks on a spook might prove difficult to fish. Frogs are good in the slop. You could maybe get away with throwing a spinnerbait in some spots. Weedless swim baits or chatterbaits. But I’d probably have a TX rigged fluke or senko in my hand most of the time.

Do you guys wear long pants in summer or just keep applying sunblock to legs/feets? I hate sunblock and was thinking of buying some super light pants. Just not sure how hot that gets.

I have a pair of the Magellan nylon pants that are pretty comfortable. I either wear that or blue jeans. I’d rather sweat than wear sunblock.

I've got a pair of Columbia fishing pants that are light and breathable, that's the key. I wore some of my non-breathable Kuhl pants a few weeks ago and was suffering in the heat. My Columbias have zip off knees and I'll sometime unzip the partway for additional airflow.

I try to avoid wearing jeans in the yak. In case I need to swim. They get heavy when wet.
