re: The Herpetology Photo Thread (Reptiles & Amphibians)
Looks like his efforts the last cpl of weeks are going to pay off...called in him a lady friend. Or is that a bullfrog maybe? Think the original one is a bronz/green.

This large cottonmouth was along side a creek I was fixing to cross. It slid in and stayed under water. Was going to wait it out just out of curiosity to see how long it would stay submerged but didn’t.

This little guy jumped on me when I opened the door this morning. After doing some googling, it looks like maybe a barking tree frog. I’ve never seen one and apparently this area (Abita Springs) is the far western edge of their range. Beautiful

Critters have been active...here are a few from the past week and a half...

Caught this ring-neck under a partially mulched log where I had some land cleared (skid steer mulcher) - don’t know how he stayed in one piece.

Finding these Mississippi Slimy Salamanders all over the place.

Took a short walk by the creek and saw Old Reliable - in the same spot every time I go.

On the way back from the creek, I caught this black racer...

...then took about 10 steps and caught another black racer.

Likewise, saw this beautiful big broad-headed skink..

...then a couple minutes later ran across another.

Living on my acreage is everything I dreamed it would be.

Dude, that seems like one awesome place if you are walking around finding all of that!

We have some of the Plestidon skinks hanging around the house, but have never been able to catch one to get a good enough look at it to see if it's a broad-headed or five-lined. We have one big ole bastard that mocks me by sitting in my driveway sunning himself...

re: The Herpetology Photo Thread (Reptiles & Amphibians)
I have “evolved” enough to not kill moccasins I find in remote areas, but must admit I blasted one to bits this past weekend at our pond where the kids like to fish. Right before then I came upon a pretty black runner stretched out sunning and watched him for a bit then he slithered off. I’ve even gotten better at IDing (and hence not killing) those banded water snakes that are dumb enough to actually try and mimic moccasins.
