Good luck Rise, take the 9wt you may find some baby tarpon. I've caught a 45-50lbs tarpon on an 8wt and cast to an 80+lber.

Also caught some cuda in the keys.

That little dude was worn out by the time I got him on the boat. He was a real pain to get on the reel. I had a pile of line off to make a long cast and he hit almost immediately, basically my third strip. He would dive deep enough to the point I had about 10' of slack and then head towards the surface, so I fighters to him with my hands on the line for 3-4 minutes. Finally got him on the reel and after about two runs on the drag he was done

Within about 30 min of Cashiers you'll find mostly wild waters or small catch/release waters that may have some hatchery input. These will be on the smaller side but potentially good places to find wild appalachian brook trout - the true gem of the region.

30 min to the North is the Tuckasegee and 30 min to the east are the waters around Rosman - both will have better opportunities for larger trout (mostly browns but some bows) if that's what you're after.

Okay awesome, thanks for that info. I'm definitely excited to go try it out.

Also PSA to anyone looking for a new reel: Allen's Omega series is 50% off for this week. I just ordered an Omega XLA 7-9wt for $320 ($650 reel). I'm really having a hard time not getting 2 more.

The kraken is really nice as well. Had one but sold it. Either gonna buy a new one or buy a used nautilus if I can find one.

Yeah the machined finish is really nice. I ended up getting the Purple/Black because most other companies charge extra for color and Allen doesn't.

It took me a long time to figure out the best way to fish when you should be working is to take the boss. Now he is wanting to go weekly and it's cutting into my pay check more than I am comfortable with.

Oh the tangled webs we weave. Don't care... Caught fish.

Caught a few bass on a popper frog early this morning. Little 5 wt rod got a work out. Then my kayak sprung a leak and my morning got real interesting real quick.

What type of frog are you using?

I bought a large frog colored popper online but it doesnt track worth a shite, just lays sideways.

Also what kind of kayak?

Look at a Dave Whitlock deer hair popper. They're awesome if tied right.

I use to be able to tie them but have gotten out of practice.

It's just a deer hair popper I bought, sort of looks like a dahlberg diver. It turns over every time and will track straight. I'll take a picture tomorrow, someone may know what it's called.

Kayak was a used sit on top that I borrowed for the morning not sure brand. Am on the hunt for a good one to use.
