I don't either. I could only see the need if you're having trouble tossing large bass flies

We ran up on some schoolies and dead drifted. Missed a strip set on two fish and then they decided they didn't want it. Made a long cast and worked it into the school with a strip, strip, strip, pause and this little guy smoked it. Not a huge fish but definitely one I will remember. 23" at the fork. Caught a gaffer on the trolling rod earlier in the day. We boated 6 mahi on the day

Im not a mahi fisherman by any stretch but I have gotten into a school of chicken dolphin once and they wanted a fast retrieve, but I was using a spinning rod. Same thing with Bonita once when I was with a guide but with a fly rod.

Put the rod under your arm and strip it hand over hand.

Chicken dolphin on a fly would be fun though. Heck, any fish is fun on a fly rod.

Edit to fix stupid auto correct

Awesome fish man.

Finally have my boat somewhat finished and am getting back into the fly fishing game. Just ordered a new Allen reel and some Rio Bonefish line. Putting it on a BVK I'm buying from Bluemoons.

Which Allen did you go with?

Im hoping to get into a few bass tomorrow now that I have some larger flies.

I assume the feeling might go away after a period of time but I have zero desire to pick up a baitcaster since I got my fly rod.

Just the Alpha 3. I'm sure I'll eventually move into a nicer setup but I don't have the funds for all that right now.

I'm going to be primarily throwing the fly rod but I'll still bring my baitcaster so I don't get skunked every trip out

Wow. Awesome!

This right here is why I created this thread! Serious congrats my man that isn't a catch on the fly I've seen before. I love seeing guys get into fly fishing and get after it like this. wasn't long ago you were in here askin about getting into this and now look at you. You find your way to west NC let me know and I'll meet you to get you on some Appalachian trout.

I'll be staying near Cashiers July 15-22. Are there any good fishing opportunities near there? Don't have anything smaller than an 8wt but I've been looking for an excuse to get one and this is that excuse.

That being said can anyone recommend me a good 4-5wt rod/reel/line. Would like to stay below $200 for the whole outfit. Allen is offering their Prelude Rod and ATS reel with backing, line, and leader for $150. I'm thinking that might be the way to go.

Reds, I have a 3wt Cabelas glass rod I think I picked up for around $50. It's a lot of fun.

Going after sharks and Cuda on the fly Tuesday, tarpon would be a bonus but I'm not sure we'll run across any juvies and I'm not pitching a 9 weight at a 100 pounder
