That looks like a sweet place to fish.

The colorful one looks like a coppernose. They get huge. Sweet photos

We might should start up a little fly trade system - you're way more advanced than I am but would be willing to mail some personal favorites for some poppers. Depends on how many would want to join in on it.

I'd be up for a fly swap if we can get a half dozen or a dozen people interested. That chartruse frog in the pictures above is mine, the others are pultz poppers that I get at breambugs.com

So I'm a couple hours into a little afternoon adventure with the fly rod only and I've gotta say, frick THIS!
But seriously, im on the south end of Lake Boudreaux in some crystal clear water and it's tough, especially by myself with this wind. I've seen a few fish but made some shitty casts and by the time I was situated again, I was basically blown into the bank. It's just too much for a novice like myself to be doing everything at once AND trying to work on my cast. Casting isn't too too bad, but I still get a little tangled up with my fly line from time to time. Mad props to you guys who can do all of this. I'm gonna give it all day tomorrow and see how it goes.

You at the very bottom of Lake Boudreaux (not even sure it's technically LB). If so, I've got some good red and black drum spots down there.

Yeah it's not technically, but yeah that's where i was. Wind picked up so I brought it home.

Gotcha. Well, if you bring dead shrimp they've got a bunch of drum on the southwest portion of that lower lake.
ETA: If you're going to be down there tomorrow, can you bump this thread and let me know how bad the wind is?

Yeah I'll let you know in the morning.

Hang in there. Learning by yourself will accelerate your learning curve a lot.

Pardon the probably dumb question, but how much line do you guys typically let out before you cast? And how do you keep this from catching shite like trolling motor and everything else on the boat? The start of my cast is pretty bad.

Depends on the pond I'm fishing. I don't fish with a basket so I generally keep around 35-40' of line in loops in my index finger of my rod hand. Sometimes I just strip behind my and it lays on my deck. When I fished out of my duck boat I used a basket or is always keep line in my hand. Too much for I to hang on.

Cool deal. I couldn't see shite from the front deck so I got to the back end of the pond and drifted to the wind blown bank while casting from the rear poling platform. I could see everything

Hang in there pogey. Know that at some point all of us have felt the frustration you have/had. Stick with it- it's very rewarding to get it down and get those fish in but there's a reason all those casting videos exist.

I have to brag on Temple Fork for a minute.
I managed to break my BVK 8wt fishing out of Golden Meadow on MLK Day. I fish out of a kayak and was pushpoling around some islands, and was talking to a friend while I pushpoled backwards to turn around. Not paying attention, I pushed myself into an island behind me and fell onto my rod which was in my seat. It broke in 3 places on the handle segment. I'm in lawschool and didn't have a single open weekend available this spring so I knew that I wasn't going to be missing any fishing if I didn't send my rod in right away.
Fast forward to last week as finals approached, and I was thinking about being able to finally get out and fish again in a couple of weeks when I realized that I still had a 4pc rod that was in 6 pieces. I Fed Ex'd the entire rod with $30 on Friday, it arrived in Dallas on Tuesday, and yesterday I opened a package with a completely new rod in the same type of packaging the original rod was in when I bought it new. Not just the handle segment which was broken, but an entirely new rod.
It took them less than 24 hours to receive my rod and put a new one in the mail to me. I know a lot of people on the board already think highly of TFO but just thought I'd share. I've never casted a really nice G Loomis or Orvis Helios2, but I've been more than pleased with my 5wt TiCR that I've used for 9 years trout fishing and my BVK. I think it would be hard for somebody getting into fly fishing to go wrong with a TFO with their value, quality, and customer service.
