From what I can tell, Cayo's are pretty affordable right new while they're still new to the skiff game. Curious to see some of their hulls with a little bit bigger motor option though. Looks like most of the ones I see are smaller tiller skiffs. I've been looking hard at quality skiffs lately and it's pretty crazy how up in price they are pretty much across the board.

I have no idea what a cayo price sheet looks like. All I know is they come on a $3k trailer and the waiting list is like 6 months.

Why can't I have cheap hobbies, like playing darts or throwing knives??

Sweet boats. Stoked to see that.
Do you know of any in Louisiana? I cant imagine his being the first one. Can't wait to see his build proposal, I bet that dude cut all kinds of shite off that hull. I wouldn't be surprised if he hung a motor on it right out of the mold.

I don't. I know of a few Ankonas other than his, but no Cayos. The lines of the boat remind me of a smaller, lighter Fury. I'm gonna shoot him an email about it. We were emailing back and forth about Eleuthera for awhile and I'm headed down there next week.

Snapped a St. Croix Reign this weekend. Debating on wether to send it in for repair or upgrade. Thoughts on a 4pc - 5wt. May go with another TFO.

Went to Orvis this morning and bought a few more flies, a couple of which are Nicks sand fleas. Looks like a windy couple of days to be doing this solo again, but I'll give it another shot.

Pogey is this the sand fleas you got?
I don't know if those are the ones Pogey purchased but those sand fleas are great flies. Great for pompano, reds, sheeps, and surprisingly bonefish.
Nick makes some awesome creations.

Those sand fleas look amazing. Might have to look for some of those.

Finally had some great weather for two consecutive weekend days.
Also, my friend up there is wearing his girlfriend's costas because his broke. Tell me he doesn't look exactly like the guy from Jurassic Park

Great pics as always bm, I look forward to seeing them. What kind of camera is used?
And what kind of fish is that you're holding with the stripes? I'm so clueless in saltwater.
------------------
Side note - Dick's sporting goods online has Rio Gold 3 weight and 7 weight fly line on sale for $40 with free shipping. This is a $75-80 line and my personal favorite.
I also think MRFC.com has some good clearance deals on saltwater fly line. I know I saw some tarpon and maybe redfish line by Scientific Anglers - their Mastery series lines are quite good and a lot of guys think they're just as good as the premium Rio lines.

Thanks man! I'm an amateur photographer at best, but I'm working on it. Same with my fishing crew. I have a Canon t4i that we use for both photo and film. Sometime soon I'm going to upgrade to a 7d mk ii. The top photo was shot with a Tokina ATX 11-20 f/2.8. The second was shot with the Canon 50mm f/1.8.
The striped fish is a sheepshead. Really tough bastards to get on the fly but it's a lot of fun when everything works out.
eta: I'll give a line review to try contribute something of worth to this thread besides photos
. So I've been throwing Wulff Bermuda Triangle Taper for a couple of years with no problems. This year, I decided to switch to Airflo's Ridge Tropical clear tip because I was interested in the floating tip concept thinking it might help for casting over spooky fish, and I thought it might be cool to take to Eleuthera. I'll disclaim this with the idea that line preference is a very subjective thing, but that stuff is awful. It knots like hell while sitting on a deck or in my hand, feels like weedeater string, and it's really loud. The noise doesn't affect performance or anything, but it annoyed me. The line shoots really well though, so I was giving it a couple months until it got really hot to see if it made any difference (it's a very tropical line). This weekend I finally had enough of it and switched back to Wulff. I'm going to keep the Ridge Clear tip and maybe give it another shot in the middle of summer and see if the hotter temps soften it up any.

Here are a couple more photos from the weekend:

Thanks for the line review. We need more of this from guys in here. I've read quite a few bad reviews from Airflo. I have no intention of ever using them.
I'll throw out an opinion on fly tying gear - I can not think of a tying thread better than GSP - gel spun polyethylene. Thin as you want it to be but stronger than anything else out there that I've used. I've used a lot of thread and keep going back to GSP.
That first pic could be a poster btw

Thinking of making a trip to the Big Horn River in month or so and haven't fly fished much. None in the last 20 years.
I want to buy a rod now and practice. I see most people there recommend a 5 wt weight forward line.
What about Wild Water? I read some good reviews about their quality for the money. Orris? Cabelas? start kits or not?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Can you give us a budget to work with? Does this need to include anything other than rod, reel, and line?

I want the best value and need everything.
Value being some compromise between quality and price.
I know that like golf equipment there is a lot of snake oil in fly equipment and no amount of money is going to compensate for a poor user.
