Live in Atl. Got my first fly rod and real for my birthday July 17th. Bought a 9 ft 6wt TFO Pro series 2 and hobbs creek reel. Hope to use for trout and bass.

Headed to Gulf Shores next Saturday through the 12th if anyone will be down there and wants to fish.

I am going to hit the surf in the mornings and then try a few spots. The bridge at the Little Lagoon outlet seems to be pretty decent and I will definitely fish behind Fort Morgan one day too.

Any place to get flies on the northshore? My two poppers are currently at the top of a tree. Still figuring out this whole casting thing....

Freshwater? Academy, Sportsman Warehouse, maybe Olde Towne Fly shop?

Basspro/Cabelas/Orvis down the road in BR.

There’s no saltwater poppers at Sportsman’s Warehouse but they have a decent selection of saltwater flies. Olde Towne is no longer open.

What kind of flies are you looking for?

No more local fly shops then. Was sad to see Upt Angler close, but the employees didn't seem to care much and the owner sounded like a grump. Luckily Ole Florida has free fast shipping.

*At the Sportsman Show in the Dome they had a "Nola Fly Shop" vendor but no fly fishing related items. seemed like just an apparel sales company

Nola Fly Shop is just an off-shoot of Marsh and Bayou. I don't expect it to go anywhere.

You are right. I was also bummed when Uptown Angler closed. The guy there with the linear tattoos was an interesting dude. It's just difficult to keep a fly shop open here. There really aren't that many fly fishermen to support a shop, and the fishery is so spread out that the fly fishermen that do live here are located all across the state. It's a bit different in places like south Florida where you have higher concentrations of anglers in various places.

Both fresh and salt. I’ll have to drive over to Slidell one day.

Anyone use a sling? Looking to moving to something different with a bit more carry space. Started out looking at the Fishpond or even the LL Bean, but think I may go with a Vedavoo.

That's a nice one for our mountains for sure.

I've got a Patagonia Atom sling. I've had it for a few years and it's served its purpose well. It's 7 liters.

Depending on what type of fishing you do, less is more. If you're wading flats, more room just means more weight.

Vedavoo has a few different sizes, I probably won’t go beast. Looking at the mid size Seam one. I like how you can specify which shoulder you want as well. I have no idea why all the major brands seem to be right shoulder slings, put it on the non casting arm.
