like the Ruger except for the safety. It makes the receiver looks stupid.

Al my guns are pre rem Marlins so not an issue but there are several manufacturers of lever parts ( bear tooth mercantile and ranger point) that have safety deletes that replaces the safety and it just looks like it’s an extra screw.
You can still use the half cock as god and John Wayne intended for carrying with a round in the chamber.

I don’t mind the safety it’s barely noticeable and as you say you really don’t even have or need to use it. Half cock is perfectly safe on its own if you do it right

I removed the safety on my 336. I would pretty often accidentally click it on when carrying the rifle on my shoulder. I used a beartooth kit. Highly recommend.i have an uncle who almost missed his chance because he had accidentally engaged the safety.

Half cock is plenty safe.

But man that rifle is absolutely gorgeous. Now you have me interested in waiting on that rifle in a different caliber.

I love .45-70 if you're shooting under 150 yds. Don't be scared of it baws.

Man buy the gun and slap a limbsaver pad on it and go blast. Regular ol .45-70 loads arent too bad and you can probably buy cowboy action loads to tame it down even more.

.45-70 is a caliber that gives tremendous savings by reloading. The brass lasts forever, cast .45 bullets are dirt cheap, you can use basically any powder, and cook up some light recoiling loads that are still plenty good short range deer and pig killers.

The hot loaded stuff out there is pretty brutal to shoot. It can be loaded up to some serious power levels if desired in that gun.

Having a big ol hole in the barrel makes guns more fun, its a fact which can't be refuted. Few people buy a big bore gun without soon lusting for another.

Not even in the same class of 308....

the 45.70 is a cannon

the 308 is a true rifle

I had a slip on Limbsaver pad on my 1895. Made it very shootable. Great deer round, remember that thousands of buffalo were shot with that round. 45 caliber bullet over 70 grains of black power, hence 45.70.

Yep. Beat me to it. That convinced me to tone down my Encore MZL. I shoot 45 cal sabot ( 50 ) and was using 150g. Down to 110 now. Still overkill.

I shot 150 grains in my .50 cal ONCE. That was enough.

This, I have a Henry in 45-70 and it's fun as hell to shoot and I really don't feel the thump as it is gun with decent mass.

Now if you just want to scratch the Marlin Lever Action itch, wait until they get the .30-30 out into production. Much tamer recoil and all around good round for woods/brush hunting.

Being that Marlin was putting a safety already when Ruger acquired them, I don’t think there’s a chance in hell they could go without the safety from a legal standpoint.

Some idiots have an accidental discharge and lawyers start licking their lips because they used to have a safety, but chose to do away with that.

i have a "remlin" Marlin 45-70 and love it. I also have a marlin 30-30 and love it as well. There is a noticeable difference in recoil. To me, the recoil on the 45-70 (as someone mentioned earlier) is more of a slow punch rather than a big jolting kick like a 300 win mag, etc. I suppressed mine and its one of my favorite rifles to hunt with. My daughter (10) killed her first deer with it this year using subsonic ammo.

I have one. With factory ammo it's ok to shoot. But I took mine to Africa and shot an Impala and a Wildebeest with it. We used it as a back up gun for Buff. I used Garrett cartridges in Arica and they kill on both ends. The most miserable day I've ever had at a range was trying to site that thing in with the Garrett ammo - 420 and 540 grain. Finally had a go to my car and find an old blanket and a coat and put between the butt of the stock and my shoulder. I've never shot it since Africa and that was over 10 years ago.

I used to own a 45-70, single shot.

Recoil wise it compares similar to my Remington 1187, if not a good bit less...but it was also a heavier rifle.

I have a Ruger .308 and that thing kicks like a baby compared to either

Another solution is to put a rubber O ring on the protruding side with the safety off. Works well if you want a quick fix or don't want to permanently delete for whatever reasons.

Well I’ll be.

Learn something new everyday. Something that simple might be one of the best tips I’ve ever heard.

Thanks!

Kicks like a 12 ga with 3.5 #4 mags, best comparison I can give.

Maybe with the nuclear loads. I find 3.5" mag 12ga shells to be 2nd only to really heavy 3" slugs in the suck department. I dont understand how some of yall duck guys do it, and ill shoot a box of. 338 win mag off a bench in a day without a 2nd thought.

Regular ol cheapy .45-70 isn't bad at all standing up. Its fun IMO. Slinging big ol chunks of lead around and not getting beat to death doing it is great fun.

Those marlin lever actions can be pretty uncomfortable in some configurations though. Some have really narrow and hard butt pads. Those should be replaced with a limbsaver or pacmyer pad.
