Can you give me some biking tips for the area?

We brought our cruisers, not our mountain bikes. Hope to do improved trail riding and some hiking/jogging.
Not huge into biking, but a lot of folks ride along the main road. I would definitely take the kids to the BMX track. My 5 and 8 year old love it - should be just fine even with cruisers.

For me the best hikes are out of the north trailhead - blue is my favorite. I generally will take that one up to the king's chair outlook and connect back to the red trail (or white if I have some extra time). If you park at the Peavine Falls trailhead it's a short hike to the falls and kids would probably enjoy that one.

Throw in Broken Bow/Beavers Bend as a good spot to tent camp even in hot weather.

Have been planning a trip there as well

There is a 0% chance I'd camp from now until late September without one of those super expensive ac units for a tent. I also rather enjoy not getting toted off by mosquitos.

Exactly. There is no camping when it's above 65 degrees. Freezing is preferred. I laugh at the stupid camping ads from the sports stores that come out in May and June. Hell no until November. You can have your sweat and maximum bugs.

I understand it's not for everyone but I enjoy being outside too much. If I were restricted to only enjoying outdoor activities for 5 months a year, I would have to move.

We did lots of camping as kids. At one point we got one of those trailer tent campers, that had a tent that popped out of the trailer, covering it. The trailer had a mattress on top of it, where my parents slept. We slept on the tent floor in sleeping bags.

We did Silver Dollar city before Branson had shows. Went all over Colorado. Spent time in Texas and Missouri. Camped all over Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee, Camped on the Gulf in Florida.

I'm probably missing a few places from when I was too young to remember where we were. After I was grown, I really appreciated my parents doing things like this.

I remember visiting Military parks like Shiloh and Vicksburg on camping trips. We camped at several places along the Natchez Trace.

We love tent camping. We went to Tishomingo, Mississippi recently, and we’re planning on going to Hot Springs sometime in the near future.

Black Creek Canoe Rentals is also a good option for overnight and two night trips.

I’m with some of the others in that my camping in the south is only Late October through April.

We did a lot of hiking. Little over 14 miles total. Not a lot of hikers but yes lots of mountain bikers. Gonna do a 15 mile road bike in the morning and probably call it a day.

Go further north or find a higher altitude. In AZ, we spent a week every August camping to escape the heat. I would just find someplace above 6,000 ft in altitude.

Yesterday we made the short hike to Peavine Falls with a 6 year old, a 5 year old and a 1 year old. Was work but worth it!

I miss those days. Mine are 11 and 14 but i carried 1 on the front and one on the back when they where little. We did peavine falls, the entire blue trail, king’s chair overlook, the loop around double oak lake. and shackleford peak. 14 miles total on saturday. We went up to chief ladiga trail in weaver and road 30 miles today.

It was a great weekend to be outside
